Help - packing for trip to Capri !
The time is almost here for my long awaited trip-of-a-lifetime to Capri. I was all set with what clothes to bring but now since it's pass labor day and my mom always taught me NO WHITE SHOES AFTER LABOR DAY I have no clue what to pack ! I know it's a resort but is summery resort clothing appropriate for this time of year in Capri ?? I was planning on sundresses and shorts - oh is wearing 'capris' to Capri cheezey ? Thanks for your help !

Europeans don;t follow the white shoes after Labor Day rule - since their Labor Day is May 1 - and is a serious holiday.
It's a resort - but September also starts to get cooler at night so be sure you have a couple of light sweaters - esp for when you're on the water. |
Thanks NYTRAVLER - so flower print Lily dresses will be ok ? Just bring a sweater. Thanks Have you been there ? Should my husband bring a jacket for dinner ?
|
Yes - have been there twice and it is definitely a resort with resort wear.
My beau won;t travel without a jacket or at least a blazer (since this is business casual for him - he's usually 3 piece suit and tie) and he wore it a couple of upscale places in Capri - but don't think it was necessary in any. But your husband will need some sort of jacket for evening - even if only a windbreaker/golf jacket sort of thing. |
Thanks NYTRAVLER !!

Hey JerseySue, wear what you would wear in the States. I would like for you to take note and report back.
You will see one of every color shoe known to man, jeans, more jeans, and most jeans, shorts, capris, t-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts, even in September. You won't see many sports coats unless it's the over 75 or the Neiman Marcus crowd. Dress for comfort, and if your comfortable walking shoes are white tennis shoes, wear them. No one will give a hoot but you. ((b)) |
Thanks BUDMAN - you're always here when I need you ! So leave hubby's sport coat home and bring my skinny jeans !! and after a few Limoncello's who cares ??
|
There ya go -- You got it!! :-)
When you going/coming back? Maybe you guys could make it to the GTG on the 21st of October. It's a fun Saturday afternoon. ((b)) |
We leave on Mon Sept 18th - the AF flight at 7:45 - wish us luck with all the bad stuff we've been hearing about AF and CDG ! and we come back on Sunday Sept 24th - what's the GTG ??
|
I think the words Neiman Marcus crowd is supposed to mean what? There are some $chic$ and $euro$ shops on Capri and the people who wear the $outfits$ are there too. But you don't have to dress that way, have fun.

Thanks SeaUrchin - just didn't want to stand out as the American Tourist ! Don't know why I'm so worried with the price we're paying to stay there at the JW - why should I care !

Every 6 months we have a Get To Gether of Fodorites in the NJ/NY area at a BYOB restaurant in Weehawkin. It's a nice luncheon and everyone shares their recent travel escapades and drink wine and eat some great food. I will be announcing something later this month on this and the US Forum. Hope you will join us. ((b))

Thanks for the invite Budman - I would love to meet some of the people who have help to make our trips so great ! We always count on you guys for your travel knowledge and humor ! You're from NY OR NJ ?
|
Well, even if you do stand out as an American tourist, do us proud!! I don't mind looking like the tourist I am but I want to look my best, whatever that is, ha.
Besides the locals all know who actually lives on the island so they will know you are a tourist but that is how they make a living, from tourists!! 90% of the people you will see will be tourists! |
So true SeaUrchin ! I'm like you - I always want to look my best - my family is from France so we are proud people !
|
Jersey. We even have someone who comes all the way from Hartford to attend. ((b))

Budman - wrote the date on my calendar - if we're not in Annapolis for the boat show - will be glad to come ! Gotta check with hubby !
