Help narrow down Paris Hotels with triple rooms
I have done research on this forum for a while now - looking for a triple room and would like Fodorite's to help me decide between the following Paris Hotels that are recommended often on this board:
Hotel Delavigne
Le Grand Hotel Des Gobelins
Hotel Du Lys
Hotel de France
I would appreciate comments on room size and also if the Hotel allows eating (yummy market and supermarket stuff) in your room.
Thanks in advance for the advice from you experienced travellers!

Hi
I haven't seen a triple room at the Delavigne. Some of their doubles (one double bed) were very very small, some of their twins (like the one I had, #24) was a comfortable size but would have been MUCH too tight if for example, a 3rd bed were put into that size room. You might want to inquire as to how the triple room compares in size (square meters) to a twin like #24.
#24 did not have a minibar, I don't know if other rooms do.
Ira's Hotel Bonaparte does have mini-fridges, and a/c, which the Delavigne doesn't.
Overall, we liked that hotel very very much in its price range.
With regard to picknicking in the room, I'll just add that I think it is nice as well as helpful, to be discreet and considerate. For one thing, pack in your checked luggage a corkscrew, and paper plates, plastic utensils, and a couple of trash bags, to dispose of your food trash neatly. The waste basket in the room will be very small.

If you are going to eat in your room, I think you got good advice from elaine.

Hotel du Lys has no elevator or minibar, isn't that correct?
Gobelins is OK, and nice if you've been around more but you'll be more transportation-dependent from there.
Hotel de France - Invalides or rue Monge? The one at Invalides seems to get better feedback than the one on rue Monge. It has a minibar.
Hotel Delavigne is very central to where a lot of people want to be (thus, surrounded by a lot of people), no minibar.

I'm now going to confuse you further!
I've stayed in two triple rooms in hotels both on Rue Monge. They are in fact opposite each other.
Hotel des Nations (3*)and Hotel Monge (2*plus).
The one in Hotel Monge had a large bathroom, whereas the one at des Nations only had a shower. Both rooms faced Rue Monge, but I was higher up at des Nations and had views of Notre Dame from the small balcony.
Both rooms had mini fridges, and at both we emptied the fridges of their contents and stuffed them with our own wine, water, cheese and olives. At des Nations there were 7 of us staying in several rooms, and each evening we had a drinks party in our triple room before going out to dinner - great fun!
At Hotel Monge I had 2 rooms with my children, and again the fridges were stuffed with snacks and picnic stuff (and wine for me!). Not a problem at all, even though we removed all the minibar contents and put them in the wardrobes till we left! Heaven forbid anyone who dared to waste money by drinking from the nimibar when there was a supermarket 25 yards down the rue!
Have a great trip.
I had no problems with food in the rooms

The triple rooms at the Hôtel de France (Invalides) aren't large - not much room for suitcases etc. once you're occupying the room. That said, it's a nice, clean, quiet hotel in a great area with very helpful staff. And the price can't be beat.

Thank you so much for responding - I really appreciate it - exactly the information I was looking for.
We cannot stay in a room without an elevator or minibar so the list is shorter already.
Ira, I know Bonaparte gets wonderful reviews - think I am only a bit lazy because you cannot book online - I will however send a fax now.
Julia, you are not really confusing me! We stayed at Monge once and really liked the Hotel. Actually it was on my list and I already communicated with Julie who told me I can only book in January for April 2006. I am a bit worried about that and wanted to have bookings before the end of this year to be on the safe side.
Elaine you were tempting me with Delavigne - I will definitely peep in there!
And Grandmere and St Cirq (or is it only St Cirq?) marketed Hotel de France (Invalides) so well!
Travelnut thanks for response about Hotel du Lys - as I said, we really need an elevator and minibar! I do not ravel light!
Thanks again!

No, I'm the one who sings praises of the du Lys, but you are right-- no minibar or elevator.
I know there is one triple on the ground floor-no steps at all. And perhaps they would let you keep something in their frig, which is on that floor, also?

I've reserved a triple for next August at the Claude-Bernard, which was recommended on this forum. According to the hotel, it has an elevator and mini-bar, also A/C. I can't tell you more than that as I have not stayed there before.
Good luck with the choice!

We stayed in two different hotels (triple occupancy) this summer.
We stayed at the near the Hotel Daunou (2nd arrondisement) near the Opera this summer. They were very hospitable. The hotel has an elevator, internet (free if you have your own technology) or you can purchase time on their computer, mini bar and it was located near a major metro stop. The only negative is that it is across the street from Harry's Bar. The rooms on the back side of the hotel were much quieter than the front.
We also stayed Hotel D'Albe in the Latin Quarter. With the double glass windows, it was much quieter than other hotels I've chosen in the 5th. We were only there one night - flight home was the next day, so I don't have too much of a commentary, but we would stay there again.
I found them both on Venere.com - I'd suggest you take a peek at them. Both were sufficiently roomy for the amount of time we spent in our room.

Thanks again for the advice! Some Hotels that are mentioned are too expensive for me - although they look very nice! I do not know what I would do without this forum.
I am going to try the Hotel Bonaparte or Monge!
