I just took a look at your report and will return for more later today..I look forward to it!
I did see the mention of the guide in Naples but wonder if you have the contact info (I did not see it with a quick look) and approximate price..(I will probably find myself back in Naples later this year and might consider hiring a guide for a few hours..)
Many thanks!

ekcrunchy - I just checked my notes and I only have his first name. I arranged the walking tour through my hotel, so I have just sent an email asking if they can provide me with his contact information. I'll let you know what they say. The cost was 300 Euros - REALLY expensive; but I'm thinking if you can conact him directly you could work something out at a much lessor rate.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me to plan the day. I have got it all together now and if it all works out we will be heading to Naples for a "splendid day." Turns out my little map that I pulled out of an old Italy book works fine.
I'll be reporting when I get back.

Another vote for the Capella Sansevero, one of Italy's most memorable sights. Super Italian!
And I would simply take a cab if you need one or want one and not worry about getting ripped off. You're not going to get taken to donkeyland. At worst -- and this is unlikely to happen -- somebody will take advantage of you to the tune of 5 euros, if that. Annoying, sure, but hardly the end of the world.
Have a great time in a great town.

ekscrunchy: I received a reply back from the hotel's agent. Unfortunately, Antonio is no longer guiding; however they did give me the name and contact information of someone that they use now, and recommend. Email me at " cynthia at my fairpoint dot net " (put fodors in the reference) if you're interested.I don't know anything about him, but I can't imagine the hotel's agent would recommend him without being sure he was good. She told me that he guided Samanatha Brown when she was there.
Happy trip risab!

risab,
I only got to spend a day and night in Naples, but I would love to go back! My main objective was the Arch Museum, so here's tip: be sure to have lots of small denomination Euros! Even though this is a world class museum, they are not prepared to give change to all the tourists with those 50E and 100E bills that come out of the ATMs.
I couldn't get an audioguide because I didn't have the exact change. Big bummer, because you really need something in the museum, either a written guide or an audio.
Be sure to see the mosaics on the mezzanine level. It was my favorite part!
Buon viaggio

Oh, I had a very good taxi experience. Nice (and handsome) young man took me through evening rush hour (what a blast!) to my hotel and charged me what I knew was the correct fare. He even carried my small bag across the street to the hotel door for me.
I also rode the subway, where I encountered 2 other very helpful and polite Neopolitians who offered help when they saw I was solo. Subway to the museo stop was just a breeze.
Personally, I wouldn't want to be on foot around the train station! Inside the station is fine.

Thank you all so much for all this great advice.
Metro Questions:
Is the Metro entrance in the train station?
I know that I go one stop to Piazza Cavour - is it a specific Metro line that I am taking to make sure that I am going in the correct direction?
Where do I buy Metro tickets? Can I use bank card or do I need exact Euro?
As a New Yorker I never have any interest in riding the metro on vacation but would consider if it is safer and faster.
