Wren, we can't take another move until Betsy arrives and gives us a clue about the word that's different when it's capitalized. No one has figured that out yet.

Could the answer to Betsy's question be Reading?

Capitalised this is a town in Berkshire (not all that far from Windsor) and is pronounced "Redding" so as to rhyme with bedding.

Am I right?

Oops, sorry. Didn't know I was being paged. Thought you folks were building on "nay." Anyway, not wanting to stop...um...progress, the word I was thinking of is Polish (native of Poland) and polish (what you do to your shoes to make them look better). However, my hat's off to Dave with Reading/reading. Anyone else?

Hoping to attract the dinner-time crowd and some new players! here is the next clue: building on the A of Vatican, an 11 letter foreign word. On a Sunday such as this, Americans might go out for a drive; this is what these foreigners do instead (ends in A).

OK, I'll play. Is it passeggiata? (I read that thread about Sundays in Tuscany!)

Assuming I'm right, here's mine. Building on the first A as the second letter of my word, 9 letters. Clue: In Southern France, a repairer of mouth organs? (You have to know a little French.)

Nope, that's not it, St. Cirq. (Warning: it's a pretty bad play on words.)

Just checking back in to offer some help if there were no further guesses.

How about this - for "mouth organ" think "anatomie," not "instrument de musique."
Is that enough?

So Betty, does it have something to do with "langue"? Could it be LangueDoc?

And while I'm here, Mimi, I'd love to see a list of all those English words that end in "gry" that you found so easily on Google. Really.

Tres bien, St. Cirq. (I told you it was bad, didn't I?)

Mouth organ=tongue=langue
repairer=healer=doctor
Ergo, Languedoc.

So it's your turn now, SC.

Yes, Betty, that was bad. So bad I couldn't believe it could be right But good one! and anyhoo....

Building on Languedoc, and using the "l" in it as the 3rd letter in a 6-letter word, the clue is:

Surname of a window reader.

I'm gone for a day and look what I miss...

This thread cracks me up, you guys. A virtual crossword is more fun than I imagined! Just a reminder, though.... we should make sure all our words are TRAVEL related, just to ensure Fodors lets us continue, since this is a travel forum.

Meanwhile, I'm working on StCirq's clue!
