Help me choose best of 3 options for 10 day trip to Rome & Amalfi Coast!

Hi! I've written out 3 options for itineraries for Rome and the Amalfi Coast for 10 days at the end of May.
The trip is for my husband and me and we're both 30 and like to have a good time, see all the sights, and also relax and enjoy the culture.
Can you tell me which option you think is this best?
I think I'm fine with spending about 3 days in Rome. I want to do day trips to Amalfi/Ravello & Pompeii for sure. I'm not sure if we should split time b/w Sorrento & Positano or pick just one. I'm not sure if I want to take a day trip to Capri or spend a couple nights there.
Thanks!

4 Sorrento - day trip to Pompeii
5 Positano
6 Positano - day trip to Amalfi/Ravello

10 depart Rome to US

I pick door #2.
Rome, Positano and Capri - sounds perfect to me

You will be able to tour the mainland and then spend some lovely days and nights (when it is less crowded) on the island.

I'm with SeaUrchin and for the same reason I believe.

IMO, The Isle of Capri trumps all the other AC sites, so the more time spent there, the better...

Looks great to me. Can you fly out of Naples so you don't have to go all the way back to Rome?
You could add another day in the area, maybe Naples itself and go to the Pompeii artifacts museum. You could take the boat from Capri directly to Naples.

What time does your flight arrive in Rome?
Maybe you can train directly to Positano, and then spend a couple of nights in Rome at the end of your trip?

If your flight arrives in the late afternoon or evening, you should definitely stay in Rome the first night.

Funny, we had the same plan last summer -- 3 nights in Positano with side trips to Amalfi/Ravello and Pompeii. We loved Positano so much, we never left!

have a great trip!

Thanks SeaUrchin...we'll definitely enjoy our last night in Rome!

dina - we arrive Rome in the early morning, but figured we'd do Rome first since it will be the busiest part of our trip. And then we'd head to the Amalfi Coast and relax for the rest of our vacation =)

Dtph -- that's a good plan.
I was actually thinking, depending on where you're coming from, if you're jetlagged, relaxing on the beach/in the sun might be preferable. It would also allow you to be checking in/out of hotels less.
However, see the benefit of doing a city at the beginning of a trip when you're especially excited and energized.
