Help! How can I get from Seville to Lisbon?

What is the best way to get to Lisbon from Seville? It's our honeymoon and we wanted to rent a car and drive the 200 miles but found that we cannot drop the car off in another country. Does anyone know if there is train service from Seville, Spain to Lisbon, Portugal? HELP!!! Our return flight is directly from Lisbon. Thanks : )

Well, yes, via Madrid, and there may be some kind of coastal route.<BR><BR>Take a look at http://www.raileurope.com/us/common/rail_map/portugal_spain.htm<BR><BR>It simply is not straightforward by train.<BR>

I am away from home and can not look in my Thomas Cook timetable, but railsaver suggests that there may a way other than via Madrid. It says "via VALENCIA DE ALCANTARA", which is a town not far from the border, west of Caceres.<BR><BR>This doesn't prove that you can avoid going by Madrid, but maybe it IS possible. A search in viamichelin.com for the DRIVING route shows a fairly major road from Sevilla to Badajoz, so there might be a rail route that is similar. From Badajoz to Valencia de Alcantara might be another question.<BR><BR>If your air travel isn't already purchased, then you might re-think the itinerary.<BR><BR>If it is, you can surely find SOME car rental company that will rent you a car with a "drop" - - but they might charge you very, VERY dearly for it.<BR>

Try this. <BR><BR>www.europebyair.com will take you from Lisbon to Magala for $99 then you can rent your car. <BR><BR>You can rent a car and drop it off in another country if you call around, it's just super, super $$$$$. <BR><BR>Beth

You can take the train from Sevilla to Caceres. There is a direct train from Caceres to Lisbon. This really shouldn't be much out of the way.

I took a Eurolines (Viajes Julia) bus that operates about 4-days a week: It looks like it originates in Granada and goes via Malaga, Cadiz &amp; Sevilla. It departs Sevilla Plaza de Armas at 15:00 and takes about 6.5 hours to Lisbon's main bus station on Joao Crisostomo (stops at Oriente multimodal transportation center first). I made my reservations online and bought our tickets at the bus station. http://www.eurolines.es/Portugal.htm
BTW
There was a honeymoon couple from Tipperary, Ireland in the seats just behind mine.

Alternatively, Damas SA operates bus service Sevilla-Faro via Huelva. You can get to Lisbon (or Setubal) by train from Faro.

I don't know how much time you have, but I'd definately consider taking a bus or train to Cacares and or Merida and Trujillo and spending some time in Extremadura. It is a logical way to break up the trip and a beautiful part of Spain. From Cacares there is a train to Lisbon but it leaves in the middle of the night. The best option is bus service in this area. I know for sure that Alsa has service from Merida to Lisbon (3.5 hrs) but there are probably other options. If you don't have time to visit Extramadura, there is a direct Alsa bus that leaves Sevilla at 11:00am and arrives in Lisbon at 5:15pm.

Here's the website for Alsa. Just be sure to click on &quot;routes and timetables&quot;, international , for travel between Spain and Portugal. You can even purchase your tickets online.
