Help From London to Normandy

We are in the early stages of planning a trip. We want to spend a few days in London first. Then we want to go to Normandy. I know this is doable since the Brits did do it, but how is it doable today?

How much time to spend in that area? What else is around there? Thanks in advance for all the good info that is on this board.

We just got back to London from Brittany, right beside Normandy.

You can fly Ryanair from London Stansted to Dinard in Brittany and drive to Normandy. It would take an hour or so to get to Mont St Michel (definitely stop to see this, but try to do it after 6pm or first thing in the morning if you can to avoid the hordes of other tourists).

The flight is about an hour. You can rent your car at the airport there.

Hope this helps!

It depends where you want to go in Normandy.
One easy route is by overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen.

Take an evening train from London to Portsmouth, spend the night sleeping in a cabin on the ship and arrive in Caen in the morning.

There are also ferries from Newhaven to LeHavre and Dieppe.

The schedules for the catamarans from Portsmouth to Cherbourg are on Brittany Ferries' website as well. On some days, there's a departure at 0800 which would require a night in a hotel at Portsmouth. On some days, there's a departure at 1545. On some days there's also a catamaran from Portsmouth to Caen at the uncivilised time of 0700.
