Help finalising itinerary
I will be travelling with my elderly mother, so going hiking is not an option. She is able to walk 1km on relatively flat ground/very short gentle gradient. We will have a wheelchair for me to push wherever possible to conserve her energy. We will be travelling in mid October. I was going to catch public transport, but now considering renting a car. But, I am uncertain about driving conditions, especially given we drive on opposite side of the road. However, I have driven in Canada (Vancouver to Rockies) and Hawaii without difficulties.
We are going to catch shuttle bus from Prague to Hallstatt or Salzburg, as this appears to be the easiest option.
Day 1 commute Hallstatt
Day 2 Hallstatt
Day 3-4 Salzburg
Day 5 Rosenheim
Day 6&7 Innsbruck
Day 8 Venice
I was wondering if it would be possible to explore the area, other villages like St Wolfgangsee without a car. We are open to suggestions and interested in being exposed to beautiful Austrian scenery and architecture, culture and hopefully meet with locals. The reason for travelling to Rosenheim and Innsbruck is to reduce the travel time to Venice. However, open to alternative route. It would appear that driving is not faster and approximately the same travel cost, but may present more opportunities for exploration and admiration of Austria. I did consider Prague-Salzburg hire a car, drive Salzkammergut circuit, then Rosenheim and Innsbruck. I also considered Prague-Salzburg, Rosenheim, Garmisch-Parten, Plantsee, Innsbruck.
Any ideas on what route would be most rewarding/spectacular/interesting and if it would be ideal to hire a car?
