Help!!! Disaster in Frankfurt!
Ok I need your help desperately! We have finally arrived in Frankfurt after yet more train delays to a dreadful apartment! I can not stay here! At 255euro a night we have no ,it,no air con and the kids don't even get a bedroom...they counted the living roo as the 2bed apartment and have placed foldout beds in the passage ways! It's bloody horrible! So anyone know the rules on leaving and not getting charged ...since we were meant to be here for four nights...just need to know my rights...I know in Australia they wouldn't get away with it but I also know Europe is different. I am happy to pay for tonight but I can't stay here for the week!
Hopefully some of you may know the answer!

It depends how the apartment was advertised. If it simply said 'sleeps 4' that is no guarantee of 2-3 bedrooms. It could easily mean one bedroom plus a sofa bed. Were there pics? Is the standard of the accommodation very poor/ run down or is just the lack of bedrooms that is the issue and it's otherwise a decent flat.
Your first port of call must be the rental agency or owner. If you don't a) notify them and b) give them a chance to sort things out then you will probably find it very difficult to get a refund. Most T&C these days stipulate contact within x time-frame if something is amiss.
I know it's crap when things don't come up to expectations but you have the internet clearly, by virtue of this post, so must be able to access contact details for your agency, basic info on your rights, and if all else fails, online booking for other accommodation. There is a limit to what people here can (and should) do for you.

Internet cost me 15euros on top of the 255! We were told we would be given a 2 room apartment ... Stupid me assumed this was there way of saying 2. bedroom ... Since its not cheap etc.
the location seemed good and I didn't see any bad reviews! It's 5th floor,no air con and like being in an attic ... It is owned by a hotel ... I have emailed due to the time and will see them in the morning about it! I can't believe the last place turned out like this! Argh we almost had the perfect holiday in regards to Accomedation!

If AC was not included in the description of the apartment, there is no reason to assume that it is there, at least not north of the Alps. Add this to RM67's question about how the apartment was described in terms of sleeping arrangement and you may have no financial recourse.

We had a horrid experience with a rental last year too after years of perfect ones. We showed up on the rental agent's doorstep first thing in the morning and told him we were packed and ready to leave. The WiFi in the bad apt. didn't work so we couldn't even search on our own. He told us to go a café for coffee and he found us another place by the time we returned. We took photos of the bad apartment and showed them to the agent. It was not as shown in the online photos. You'll only have three more nights..we had two weeks to go.Is it that bad?

i'm sorry - but it sounds like you are a victim of your own assumptions.
Most apts in europe don;t have AC - especially in Germany and other northern areas - so if you want it you need to look very specifically.
Two rooms would mean a BR and a LR - if it had 2 BRs it would say so specifically. Most apts that sleep 4 are 1 BR and a sleep sofa in the LR.
Not sure of complaint about 5 floors. Do you mean there is no elevator? If so - again that is something you need to check on since many buildings in europe do not.
I encourage you to contact the rental agent and hope they can help - but honestly I really don;t think you have cause for complaint. It should be chalked up to knowing better next time.

If it is listed as a two room apartment, if it doesn't say there is A/C, and if it doesn't say there is a lift or elevator . . . then unfortunately you probably booked what you have.
You didn't give us a link to the place so no one could help you w/ any red flags. But UNLESS there were specific promises re bedrooms, a/c, lift - you don't have much recourse that I can see. But if you do give us the link maybe someone can give you some ideas.

Meant to add it os VERY typical for a one bedroom holiday flat to sleep 4. Two in the bedroom and two in the living room in fold out beds,
My guess is it says two room but you read two bedroom. Easy mistake. But unless the listing promises otherwise, I honestly don't see what recourse you have. The hotel may take pity on you - maybe they can get you a fan. But I'd honestly try to make the best of things and not let it ruin your trip.
There are worse things than having the kids in fold out beds

Sorry for your troubles, but I do agree that you are more likely a victim of expectations and not carefull reading. 2 room is not 2 bdr, a/c is never implied, nor is internet unless it was stated, but it sounds like you have it, just have to pay for it. 255 Euros does sound high, but I am quite sure no one here, in the pre-travel, multi-thread phase, saw a Frankfurt link.
Try and enjoy the last few days of your vacation. This is hardly a disaster. When I saw the title post, I was really expecting worse, illness, theft, missing passports, etc. Consider it a learning experience and carry on.

Hi Claire,
Oh dear what an annoying end to what has been an amazing holiday.
I have been enjoying reading about your travels each morning and so admire your balance between adult activities and children's needs. I know the feeling when one gets to the end and things go wrong: we were laughing over breakfast about an English cottage we 'rented' and upon arrival(in a heatwave)found vast quantities of rat poison in all kitchen cupboards and then as I was exclaiming in horror about this DH flushed the upstairs loo and the pipes emptied the waste outside the kitchen window!!!
We decamped to an hotel but still suffered with lack of AC and at the time we lived in Darwin.
Not sure what the morning might bring for you but if you can manage to swallow even one nights extra cost maybe spend your last night in a beautiful hotel say on the river in Mainz and celebrate what has been a very happy and wonderful family trip.
Written in hope for a good outcome - from another West Aussie (now living in SA) who has had many busy and great family trips with this kind of annoying happening.
All the best,

For 255 euro per night, you could have had a fabulous hotel room, with AC and elevator and wifi. Did you ask anyone on here for recommendations for Frankfurt? I would have been happy to have assisted you in finding a place.
No private apts. have AC that I have ever experienced and not even many hotels. If you are on the 5th floor of a private residence, and it is an old building, you of course will not have an elevator. Most of these buildings like this in Frankfurt were built turn of the century and installing an elevator just doesn't work.
It does look like you didn't read the amenities for this place at all. As far as rights, which ones would those be? Which hotel or B&B is it?

Since they've been on the trip Claire hasn't ever given links to the various accommodations until after they have left and moved on to the next city. I got the impression she was nervous that someone might stalk them .
We have no idea what she booked until she posts the link.

In Germany, 2 rooms means exactly that (kitchen and bathrooms do not count in the room count). Next time, look for 3 room establishments.
And no AC is fairly standard for hotels, gasthauses, and apartments in Germany. An establishment actually having AC is unusual.
15 Euro for internet sounds about right too. "Free" internet is hard to come by, even in hotels.
That's the danger when an Ausländer who doesn't know the ways of a particular country books things normally geared towards the locals. Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

I know bit dramatic but after the glorious holiday we have had arriving here was just sooo disappointing...it really was 255euros! A night. The reason for no discussion re places to stay was by the time we came to this stage of the planning the to.erance level of the people on here was slim so I didn't push my luck.
I really did assume for the price we would get better!
After going to the front desk at 6am in the morning to express the concerns I had they agreed that perhaps I had been slightly misled and allowed me to check out today and not pay for the other nights ...
So to find a new place to stay on such short notice??? As a member of score I just took a taxi to novatel ...they had a family room...two rooms interconnecting ...air con..lift....and it's less then 200euro a night!
So this is fine for us issue solved. I assume its not the best of locations but given the situation I am not going to be picky!
The hotel was hotel palmenhof and their apartments are linked from that site.
Oh and yes Russ...Spain was a disaster ...but you know I always love posting my title in a dramatic way!
