Help! Change of plans for Italy in June.

Our plans have changed for our trip to Positano/Rome/Florence in June. Because of a change in the date of participation in a conference in Rome we will not be able to spend out last two days in Florence. This will give us extra days in Rome. I hope I can add two days to our hotel reservation! My question is - our traveling companions, the ones who needed to change the dates, want to spend an extra day in the Amalfi Coast. I was thinking we could spend a night in either Capri or Ravello. We are spending 4 nights in Positano and then will have the one day and night to play with. Which of the two places do the experts recommend for spending the extra day and night? Or is there something else we should see in that area or between there and Rome? If there is a recommendation for staying over in Capri or Ravello, can you also recommend a hotel that is not over 175E per night? Thanks sooo much!

If it's between Capri or Ravello, I'de choose Capri. You can visit Ravello as an easy day trip from Positano, but the best way to visit Capri is to stay overnight. I think there is more to see & do in Capri. We stayed at the Villa Brunella, which has killer views from the rooms above the pool.

You did not say if you have a car or not. If you do, a trip to Pasteum would be nice, and then perhaps head towards Rome and stay in Tivoli and visit Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Est. We stayed at the Sirene - nice rooms & great views, and lousy food (eat in town).

Ira, our plans were arrive in Positano on Tuesday after an overnight flight to Rome, stay in Positano until Saturday, then on to Rome until Tuesday, then 2 days in Florence before the flight home on Thursday. Now, we cannot go to Florence at the end of the trip because of a conference committment in Rome. So we were thinking one extra day on the Amalfi Coast. As of last night I emailed several hotels in Capri and no availability in our price range - 175E. Help!

Hi rbn,

Don't feel too badly. Florence will be there next time.

Have you looked up "Capri AND Hotel" (no quotes) in the "search this forum" box?

I also recommend a night on Capri if you can do it.

Can you add a night to your hotel in Positano?

Hi rbn,

Yes, you can do Pompeii as a daytrip from Positano.

It's an hour from Positano to Sorrento by SITA bus, and about the same from Sorrento to Pompeii on the Circumvesuviana.

See http://www.sita-on-line.it/
and http://www.vesuviana.it/orari.htm

for schedules.
