Help!! car rental for 1 or 2 days
I just went on to the autoeurope.com site to rent a car for 1 day from Rome to Florence and later for 2 days from Milan returning car back to Milan. I was suprised to find out that they only rent for 3 days minimum. Does anyone know of another car rental co. (other than Avis or Hertz) to rent at a reasonable price?

Ignore above post. I goofed. I rented with Europcar not AutoEurope. Their link is http://www.europcar.com/home.html and they do 1 day rentals at a good price.

HTH

This forum is the best!!! I tried Europcar, and found site to be difficult. But: thanks Chris, the autoEuropa site(www.sbc.it) is great. Wonderful selection of cars, site easy to negotiate, and prices very reasonable, especially for 1 or 2 days.I am much relieved now that this last planning job has been accomplished, thanks to so many questions being answered on this forum about hotels, trains, cars even restaurants. This forum has truly made planning this trip a joy!!

Trish,

Did you try www.carhire4less.co.uk? Their prices are in pounds sterling, but it's easy enough to make the conversion. I'll bet if you consider all the details, such as the size of the car, automatic transmission (if that's what you want), etc., their rates will be as good as or better than autoEuropa. No, I don't work for them, but I've done my last three rentals in Italy through them and I've been very satisfied.

Based on two bad experiences, I would recommend going with a name brand car rental agency.

1st bad experience: getting a price over the internet for car rental "voucher," which never showed up.

2nd bad experience: reserving a van and then getting the run around at pick-up time (giving us a utility van, then a humungous 9 passenger, then finally after 1 hour the van we ordered)
I checked exhaustively all sites mentioned here, however I was surprised to find that the best buy was National. I rented an intermediate car(Volkswagen Passat) for 1 day 8AM to 8PM for 127Euro, and same car for 2 daYS FOR 242 eURO. tHIS ALSO INCLUDED EXTRA INSURANCE WITH NO DEDUCTIBLE. Thanks everyone!!!
