Province car Rental

Pease advise:
Car rental for 8 days, Nice to Orange/Avignon, late May 2004.
Have always used Hertz, quoted $358 US for 8 days for intermediate manual air 4 door diesel. I like a rental company that will come to YOU if there is a problem, ie, you are not responsible for returning the broken down car. Any recent positive experiences with other car rental companies?

We rented through Avis in Nice last summer - it was the cheapest price from all of the rental companies(and we checked them all). Easy pick up/drop off point since we stayed in Nice for a few days on the Promenade D'Anglais. Thankfully we had no "breakdown" issues with the car. Something did substantailly scratch the back of the auto but they didn't seem to care about it.

I always rent from AutoEurope, a brokerage company that almost always gets me my rental car through EuropCar.

My last car did die a quiet death about 30 minutes after I picked it up. AutoEurope arranged for a mechanic to come and tow it and fix it.

I should add that it took a day and a half to fix the car, and AutoEurope did reimburse me for two days worth of rental fees.

Just tried AutoEurope. The quote for the exact same rental is $107 more than Hertz.

Did you enter a Hertz discount (CDP) #? You can save a bit that way. If you don't know one, try the # for NW FF: 269339.

Hi, have you tried Europe By Car? www.europebycar.com. 800-223-1516. They are based in New York and I've used them twice for my France trips. Never had a problem.
