HELP. Can't decide on which hotel in the Marais.
I've narrowed it down to four and am looking for advice from fellow travelers who have experienced these properties.

Choices are: Hotel Bretonnerie, Hotel de la Place des Vosges, Hotel Bastille-Speria and Caron de Beaumarchais. I am looking for a place with nicely appointed, quiet rooms near bakeries, wine bars, etc. I think they are all located near the Place des Vosges which is also important to me. Thanks for the help.

I just got back from Paris and passed by all of these hotels at least once. Each one offers something different...

Hotel Bretonnerie - Great location in the heart of the Marais. This is also in the heart of the gay neighborhood, so the street can be 'quite the scene' on a Sunday afternoon.

Carton de Beaumarchais - In the same area but off the rue Rivoli which is a busy shopping street. Busy on weekends.

Place de Vosages is a bit more burried and quiet.

I have not heard of the Bastille Speria. Have you tried the Jeanne d'Arc? i think this was on a side street thus can be quieter.

Hotel de la Place des Vosges was a bit run down when I stayed there several years ago, and I've seen some posts on here that lead me to believe that not much has been done about it. You could run a search on it for more up to date info. On the other hand, I've heard good things about the Bretonnerie.

We've stayed at both Brettonerie and Caron de Beaumarchais, preferred the later. Room smaller but hotel seemed nicer, more elegant. It was airconditioned, Brettonerie was not - very important during the summer. The staff at Caron de Beaumarchais was friendlier and much more helpful.

Yes, another vote for Caron de Beaumarchais; we stayed there last May and it was delightful. Yes, rooms are small....where in Paris, except the top hotels at $500 a night, are they not?!
I always ask for a quiet, or courtyard room, ours overlooked a narrow nondescript nothing, but was totally quiet. Adorably decorated and lovely bathroom, Provence style fabrics. Very good breakfast in the basement dining room, more than adequate. Good location for the Marais, etc. Rue Rivoli is yukky and very noisy, as is the neighborhood on weekend evenings, but it doesn't affect your being in a quiet room.

Enjoy.
