heathrow to gatwick?

Can anyone tell me how far it is from Heathrow to Gatwick airport. We are flying in and out of Heathrow from/to home but our Spain flight we're thinking of buying goes in and out of Gatwick. Can this work?

yes - there is a frequent, direct coach linking the two.

Don't try to make too short of a connection tho'. Allow about 4 hours (or a bit more) between flights and you will be fine. You could probably make it in 3, but there are too many variables - late plane, slow luggage, heavy traffic, etc.

It can definitely work, but honestly it's a real pain. The 2 airports, while linked by a bus, are on opposite sides of London. If you hit bad traffic, what should be a 40-60 min. trip can take 3 hrs. That means you have to leave yourself plenty of time between flights. I would not happily choose to do this again. Remember you have to go through customs, collect your luggage, take your luggage with you to Gatwick, recheck it, go through security again.......Is there no way you can fly into Gatwick?

I meant to say you have to go through immigration.

For me, it would have to be a HUGE savings to consider doing the Heathrow/Gatwick connection. Sure it can work, people do it every day. But it's not something I would chose if there were similar alternatives with Heathrow/Heathrow routing.

Because of the variables listed above, it would be safer to allow a minimum of five hours between your scheduled arrival at Heathrow and your scheduled departure from Gatwick.
