Heathrow to central London

I am not sure of the best and least expensive way to get from heathrow to london. I know the train is good, but I just heard something about the National express.
Can anyone give me information on that. Also does it go to Luton airport?
Thanks,
MIke

We took the Airbus from Heathrow to London. It cost 8 GBP each, one way.

The least expensive is the tube. The "best" depends on where you are going, time of day, amount of luggage, etc.

If you a w/i walking distance of a Picadilly tube line station and are not lugging too much stuf, take the tube.

If you are near Paddington - take the express train.

If there are more than two of you a car service works out cheaper than the train and will take you door to door w/o having to struggle w/ your bags on the tube or train.

Luton is north of London - are you trying to go directly from Heathrow to Luton? If so there is a direct coach service between the two that doesn't go into London.

The easiest answer to your question is to direct you to the BAA web site. Choose Heathrow, then "getting here".

That will give you the full choice of ways of getting into central London, to London's other airports, and elsewhere in Britain. The train is never the least expensive option: the tube usually is best value.

National Express is not an option from Heathrow to Central London (though there is a range of other bus services). It is one of a number of bus companies that operates services from Heathrow to other locations. Its web site (www.gobycoach.co.uk) is NOT a portal for UK buses: it provides details only of one company's - and some associates' - services

Flanneruk's opinions are brilliant - love the Liverpool/Manchester one - but sometimes he doesn't get the facts right. National Express is an option into central London. It operates the A2 bus service from Heathrow to King's Cross, with the 17 or whatever stops along the way. It also operates coach service, 3 or 4 an hour, from Heathrow to the Victoria Coach station.

As well as the service into London, it also operates the interairport services, such as Heathrow to Gatwick. And it operates 9 of the UK train franchises, one of which is the Gatwick Express.

National Express seems to be downplaying the gobycoach portal; you are immediately transferred to www.nationalexpress.com.

If you search this site there are some previous posts suggesting car services from London airports.
Note that they are not the same as picking a taxi from outside the airport - they tend to be extremely expensive (when you see them in a film, jumping into a taxi outside the airport, you don't see it screech to a halt 50 yards down the road when they read the rates and surcharges!)

Train - takes about 2 1/4 hours, costs GBP30 one way if you were going tomorrow (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk) - note that a return won't be twice that, the prices are weird.

Or

Coach - takes between 2hrs 20mins to 4hrs 20mins (some are direct others aren't - it you wait an extra 1/2 hour, you arrive 1 1/2 hours earlier - go figure), costs GBP14 over the net (www.nationalexpress.com)
