London City to Heathrow
What is the easiest and most cost effective way for 3 adults to get from London City Airport to Heathrow? Travelling into LCA one day and out of Heathrow the next. Overnighting at Heathrow.

Will you be traveling light and hauling your own luggage? If so, here's a suggested route from the London City Airport Web site: At London City Airport, take the blue Shuttle Bus to Liverpool Street Station (£6 single). From there, join either the Circle or Hammersmith and City Underground Line (ticket required) and alight at Paddington. Follow the signs for the mainline station and join the Heathrow Express Rail Service which links Paddington with London Heathrow every 15 minutes (£12 single). Typical journey time varies between 90 and 120 minutes.
Now I'll add my own comments. If you're looking to save money, when you get to Paddington Station you could stay on the Underground and take the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow. (The Underground will be slower than the Heathrow Express.)
I don't know what the cost of a taxi from London City to Heathrow would be, but the London City site estimates that a taxi from the airport to Paddington Station would cost 35 GBP so it would be a fair amount more to go all the way to Heathrow.
One more option would be to use an airport shuttle minivan service. Ray Skinner is recommended by many Fodorites. A Google search should give you his Web site.

At the prices listed by Tim, it might be cheaper for 3 adults, and certainly would be less time and hassle, to take a car service like Ray's London Transfers, which can be found at www.london-transfers.com

I'm forever recommending Ray Skinner's Service (www.london-transfers.com) and will again to you. With 3 people (assuming you all have luggage) I'd opt for a pick up service. It's door to door and less hassle then the tube by far and even the tube/Heathrow Express combo. It may be a little more then his regular rate for London (35 pounds) but I'd ask, in the long run it's well worth it. Ray is very reliable and you can contact him by e-mail or phone.

I gave you some wrong information in my previous note. If you were to take the Tube from Liverpool Street Station to Heathrow, there is no need to go to Paddington Station at all. And the Piccadilly Line doesn't go to Paddington. Instead, take the Central Line to Holborn and transfer there to the Piccadilly Line and take it all the way to Heathrow.
But as others have said, with three of you, a car service would certainly be the most convenient way to go.
