Heads Up! United Mobile Sim Users
United Mobile Sim cards\phones
If you are using United Mobile sim and your phone number starts with +423 you will discover it is no longer working, as they are phased out. It appears the company is restructuring and switching over to +44 numbers. When you log on to the web site you get an error 404 with a notice stating they are restructuring. So………………..since I have some funds left on my card I kept trying yesterday and at last got a response and a ticket number to get on the list for conversion. From this site you can read the details. Basically it sounds like to can receive calls but may not be able to make any. Bummer….

A couple of weeks ago, UM sent out emaail telling that they would be deactivating their +423 cards in mid April and that they would send free +44 cards. HOWEVER...
As of last week the +44 cards are no longer functioning either. There doesn't seem to be anybody who knows what's going on. An e mail was circulated claiming this condition is temporary and they are re-structuring. Many of the people on prepaidgsm.net are skeptical that they will ever arise from the ashes but then again some of the Isle of Man cards (UM's +44 is located in Jersey) went through a similar problem about two years ago and to the surprise of many, the sim cards came alive again and all credit was not lost and they have been somewhat stable ever since.
It's too bad...UM was a pretty stable operation until all this you know what hit the fan.

They were really the best and most stable of the international cards and gave me yeoman like service during a trip through Central and Eastern Europe 3 or 4 years ago....at the time I was able to forward calls from my home phone number to their +423 number for 11¢/minute US...since then for whatever the reason, termination fees to +423 mobiles rose to at least 75¢/minute if not more rendering the +423 useless. I then used the +44 card with great success for the past 3 years. This has all come as sort of a big surprise....but then again because of the world economic melt down it comes on the heels of the demise of O9, Yackie Mobile. But there's always hope the dead can arise again, I just wouldn't hold my breath on it!

Looks like they are gone for good. Account balances are all showing 0.00 and status is showing "unknown". RIP United mobile.
UM was one of the more stable ones and have been around for a while. if they can go down, I suspect we will see more of them go down. There are too many of these international sim companies in a dwindling (due to lower EU roaming rates) market.
