I agree, goddess, with both of your posts.
The driver is under no obligation to go out of his way to return items left in his taxi. I think it's up to the passenger to retrieve it.
If the driver is willing to return it for a fee ( to cover his own loss of a fare), I don't think anyone has a right to complain about that.
