Having trouble finding early bus Positano to Sorrento or Salerno...
On May 25, we need to be in Rome by mid afternoon. We'll be coming from Positano. I've looked at the SITA and train websites, but find that no SITA buses appear to run in the early morning to Salerno, and only a couple from Positano to Sorrento...then requiring train to Naples.
Anyone have experience with transportation in the early morning from Positano north, with the hopes of reaching Rome by 2:30 pm or so???
Thanks!

Sue,
have you considered booking a taxi the day before (to make sure he's there early) from Positano to Sorrento then catch the train to Naples (1 hr) then the Eurostar to Rome (2 hrs). This might work but I have to warn you, we caught the Eurostar from Rome to Naples earlier this year and it was over an hour late arriving. I wouldn't completely rely on the timetables, always allowing plenty of extra time for delays.
Kay

Sue: There definitely are ferry boats from Positano to Salerno (I took one myself during the summer). I found some into which might help:

Navigazione Libera del Golfo
www.navlib.it
e mail: [email protected]
Tel: 081 5527209 (Naples)
Fax: 081 5525589 (Naples)

For some reason, the web site does indicate both fast boats and ferry boats from Positano to Salerno, but does not post a schedule for today. I expect there to be service on May 25th, but don't know how early in the morning. I suggest you send them an e-mail and a fax requesting this information. PS: you need to take a boat going to Salerno Piazza Concordia (and not Salerno Molo Manfredi, which is far from the train station). From Piazza Concordia it's 300 yards to the train station. Otherwise, from Molo Manfredi you'd need to take a taxi across town to the train station (2 kilometres).

If this doesn't work out, Kay's suggestion is worth exploring. Are you certain the SITA bus to Sorrento does not leave early enough?

There SHOULD be a daily SITA bus leaving Positano at 7:15 a.m., arriving Sorrento at 8:05 a.m. This bus originates in Amalfi, so it could be a little late. I'd verify these times with your hotel in Positano. From Sorrento, it's 70 minutes to Napoli Centrale (Circumvesuviana train), and another 2 hours on to Rome (FS Train).
