Greek Island Hotels
Hi. My wife and I (young 50's) are seeking recommendations for hotels on Mikonos and Santorini and other info you wish to share. Have read the travel guides, am looking for your recommendations for our trip in early Sept.
Thanks.
--smr

While in Mykonos stay at Petasos Beach. It's in a good location within walking distance to the beach (2 minutes) and beachfront restaurants. The local bus stops right in front every half hour up until 11pm I believe. The staff at the hotel are excellent. I had a bad experience with Dana's Villas in Santorini 2 years ago. We went to check in and rather than admit they had overbooked they claimed some of their villa's were uninhabitable due to the Americans plugging up the plumbing system. We were bupmped down the laneway to some dump called Gallini Villas. The fellow I dealt with at Dana's was named Dymitri.

We loved the Princess of Mykonos, which is within close walking distance to a beach, yet a mile or so away from the busy Mykonos Town. There is a pool, pool bar, and a wonderful restaurant on site. The buffet breakfast is super, and the young staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely, as were the common rooms. BTW, Jane Fonda supposedly stayed here a while back.

You didn't mention which area of Santorini you were interested in visiting. I have stayed at the Vegerra in Perissia which is very nice directly on the beach with a nice restaurant and a great pool. I've also stayed at the Esperas in Oia which is also great, very quiet great view of the sunset, swimming pool and a new restaurant both of these were 150 euros and up.

I found www.i-escape.com/greece.php very useful. We stayed in their recommended hotels on Mykonos and Santorini and also Folegandros, which was my favourite. We followed one of their suggested itins, 9 days in total (Mykonos Syros Santorini Folegandros)

I second the Petassos Beach recommendation. Quieter than being right in town, the pool and restaurant area are nice, and most of the rooms are quite good for the price. I cannot remember the name of/wouldn't recommend the hotel we stayed in on Santorini.
