Yes - Mykonos Blue in Mykonos (obv) is fabulous 5 star luxury. Also Hotel Akroyiali (on Plati Yialos) is lovely, with pretty gardens and a great Italian restaurant. It has its own beach (rare for Mykonos) and has a pier where boats leave for Paradise Beach and Super Paradise beach (the ones with the bars/DJs)

Princess of Mykonos is lovely, outside Myk.Town. Very nice rooms and public areas, young, friendly staff, good buffet breakfast, pool, and super restaurant on site. Heartily recommend.

Both Conde Nast Travler and my brother-in-law are huge fans of Perivolas in Santorini -- www.perivolas.gr

I like Vedema in a village outside of Thera on Santorini, but it is obviously not on the Caldera, and in Mykonos Santa Marina again outside of the main town.

Joe-

Visted Mykonos and Santorini summer of 2000. Without a doubt Mykonos Blu is the place to stay on Mykonos. Luxury hotel overlooking a beautiful bay with private beach. Fabulous infinity pool that overlooks the sea. Rooms are clean, modern and tastefully decorated in a mediterrean theme. Stayed for 5 nights, can't wait to go back. Service was great and the buffet breakfast offered something for everyone.
Santorini stayed at Las Perivolas worth every penny. The view was beyond belief. Staff very friendly. For 1st time trip to Santorini you definately want to stay on the Caldera.

We stayed in Santorini at the Villa Vedema in July. Wonderful hotel, our 2 bdrm villa could not have been nicer, great food and staff!

We stayed the first week of August at Esperas in Ia, Santorini. The most romantic place we have ever stayed. Beautiful, each room with its own terrace, walk down the hill for seafood lunches at the "town" of Ammoudi, wonderful staff. Room 121 has a gorgeous terrace!
Darcie

My husband and I went to Santorini as part of our honeymoon in August. We stayed at the Volcano View Villas and loved it. The views are amazing and they have a pool right on the caldera. Don't even consider not staying on the caldera. The only drawback is the lack of transport. There is a courtesy bus that runs into Fira every couple of hours but otherwise you need to rent a scooter/car. We didn't find this a big problem but some people might.

We really enjoyed the Hotel Leto in Mykonos. It overlooks the bay in the town and is close to shops, restaurants, and nightlife, yet it is private and quiet. They have a nice private pool too. Have a great time!

Lyndel, I was happy to read your good review of VVV; we stayed there in '97, and had the same positive thoughts about it. Rarely hear it mentioned on this site and have wondered why. I cannot imagine a more spectacular view of the caldera.

Atlantis Villas. Just returned from a 4 night stay there. Excellent view, rooms, location and the most impressive, the service.

Just made reservations for Katikies in Oia and Belvedere in Mykonos. I feel that if I want to go to Fira I can catch the bus while runs frequently, or hire a taxi. In Mykonos I want to stay in town.

Anita, you will love the Katikies. We didn't stay there this time and opted for Atlantis Villas because we heard the private balcony/terrace was not private. When we went to visit Katikies, that definitely was the case. However, it is beautiful. Enjoy, you will truly love the view.

Anita, based on my research it looks like you made two great choices. I plan on checking both places out when I get there next week. I always love looking at all the options so when I go back a second trip I get to stay someplace I have a had a year to dream about. When are you going? I will be posting reports dailt from my trip starting Oct 2..So close, can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

Bryon,

I won't mind about the balcony not being private as I will be traveling alone. Also, it will be great having a queen size bed - not a tiny, single one.

Gary,

Going next spring - I know it's a long way off, but I get neurotic and have to make plans in advance. I am looking forward to your posting while you are there. It will give me a lot to look forward to.
