Hi Beamel,
would love to hear more info and suggestions regarding Naxos...
In particular about of hotel and the beach.
On the other hand I can help you with some suggestions for Italy, I grew up there and I go there every summer.
For a nice "wine" itinerary, a little bit different I can suggest the Veneto Valpollicella area and the "Wine Strasse" near Bolzano, both wonderful areas with a lot to see and do.

WILLIAMFRA,
More info on where we stayed at Villa Marandi? Here is their website http://www.villa-marandi-naxos.com/. Julie is head of reservations and takes care of everything there. She really helped to make our time at Naxos. She arranged our car at the last minute and any little thing we needed. The beach there is small & very private nestled in a cove. It would be quite nice if it were maintained a bit (trash tossed about). You get a beautiful view of the main town Hora. You feel like you're so tucked away & removed out there but still only a few miles...a 6 euro cab ride. Amazing breakfast (and we aren't ones to opt for the hotel brekfast). What else would you like to know? I'd be happy to share.
Mikewalsh,
thanks for the great info. We have lots of reading to do. I am pretty interested in the Lakes. I may inquire more later.
thanks!
