Greece Itinerary in October
Hello,
We’re planning on a trip to Greece for our honeymoon from 10/18 to 10/28. Below is our tentative itinerary and we need your help!!
10/18 Saturday: flight arrives Athens at 2:00 PM
10/18: Athens (1 night), evening tour Athens and dinner
10/19 Sunday: ferry (7:35am to 12:50pm) from Athens to Mykonos
10/19 to 10/22 Mykonos (4 nights)
10/20 Paradise Beach
10/21 Super Paradise Beach
10/22 Day trip to Delos
10/23 Thursday: ferry (2:45pm to 5:25pm) from Mykonos to Santorini
10/23 to 10/25 Santorini (3 nights)
10/26 Sunday: flight (2:50pm to 3:35pm) from Santorini to Athens
10/26-10/28 Athens (2 nights)
10/27 Acropolis & Archaeological Museum
10/28 Tuesday: flight departs at 2:55pm
A little bit about us…
We’re from New York and in our early 30’s and do enjoy metropolitan life style. We don’t like to move from places to places too often and prefer to stay in one place for at least 2 to 3 nights so we can have a more relaxing trip. We are not very into history or archaeology stuff but will definitely visit some, but not all, of the landmarks as they are the highlights in Greece. We are interested in going to Mykonos because of its party scenes and Santorini because of its beautiful scenery.
Here are our questions:
1. I have been searching for ferries from Mykonos to Naxos and from Naxos to Santorini between 10/21 and 10/23 however there are no ferries available according to the schedule online. Are there any ferries that go to Naxos in late October?
2. If there are no ferries going to Naxos during that time, we have to stay in Mykonos for 4 nights since there are no ferries going to Santorini on Wednesday. Is there anything we can do on this island for 4 nights? Or any suggestions so we can make it to Naxos?
3. How is the transpiration on the islands? In Athens, we can use metro. How reliable are the buses on the islands? Are they convenient?
4. Any suggestions we can make our itinerary better?

The ferry companies seem to be waiting an extra-long time to release their October schedules. I assume it's because they're all still considering their post-season cutbacks and have yet to decide what to do. October schedules should be out within the next few weeks.
An alternate route would be Mykonos>Paros>Santorini. The Blue Star "Paros" will arrive at Paros around noon, so if there is a morning ferry Mykonos>Paros you'll be able to take it the rest of the way to Santorini.
One reasonable alternative would be to change your departure from Mykonos to either Tuesday or Thursday. You will see here that the Hellenic Seaways FlyingCat 4 does sail from Mykonos to Santorini on the 21st and 23rd.

Another would be to skip Mykonos altogether and spend those days on Naxos or Paros instead, or skip Santorini in favor or another island easily reached from Mykonos. You can get to Delos for the day from either Paros or Naxos.
Santorini has an excellent bus systesm. http://www.ktel-santorini.gr/

Mykonos is on a different ferry route from from Naxos, Paros, and Santorini. During summer there are catamarans providing cross-route connections, but this year most seem to be ending their season in mid-September. The exception is FlyingCat 4, which runs through the month of October, with no-sail days every Wednesday.
The Mykonos-Paros connection mentioned by brotherleelove is SeaJet 2, which right now is shown as sailing until Oct 19th. There may be additional sailings released later, but don't count on it. The logical solution is what BLL suggested, to "change your departure from Mykonos to either Tuesday or Thursday."
