Greece Trip
Hi All,
I'm planning a trip with three friends from 5th - 13th July. We'd like to stay in Athens for 2 nights and then go to Santorini for the rest of the week or perhaps after Athens - split it up with 3 nights in Santorini and 3 nights in Mykonos or Paros. Can you please advise as to what itinerary we should choose? I'm keen to do three places at least.
Also, do you recommend Ferry or Plane to move from place to place?
Many thanks in advance!

Recommend flying straight to Santorini upon arrival in Greece, saving Athens for the end of the trip. From Santorini you can reach either Paros or Mykonos by highspeed ferry. There are airports at both Paros and Mykonos, but ferry back to Athens is nearly as convenient, and more fun IMO.

Thanks Heimdall...Santorini & Athens is definitely on the cards. Do you suggest we stick to Santorini for 6 days then Athens for 3 days. Is it worth the time and money to add either Mykonos or Paros to the trip and reduce the time spent in Santorini? If so, which island should we add?

Depends on your travel style. You can keep yourself busy on Santorini for 6 days, and have time left over for relaxation. A 3/3 split between Santorini and Mykonos, Paros, or Naxos is certainly feasible, but keep in mind you will lose most of a day transferring between the two islands. If you want some beach time, Paros or Naxos would be good choices, and would actually save you money, as costs are lower than on Santorini and Mykonos. Mykonos also has good beaches along with its fabled nightlife.

You should be okay for early July sorting out ferry bookings when you get to Greece, especially if travelling mid-week. Ferries leaving Piraeus on Fri/Sat and returning on Sun are more popular, so could be full. If you fly to/from Santorini you will, of course, need to book flights in advance.
Usually pre-booking ferries isn't necessary except in high season and around Greek holidays. Occasionally people get caught out, as happened early last September when weekend ferries from Naxos and Paros back to Piraeus were sold out. If you have fixed travel dates it doesn't hurt to pre-book.
