Great deal for Grand Hotel in Vienna
Just thought I'd pass along a tip for a booking site with great rates.
We will be in Vienna December 3 for 4 nights and I'd been looking at the Grand Hotel Wien's website for deals.
Last week they had a special for 190 Euros for their Superior (cheapest) room but it was late at night, I was too tired to book, blah blah blah. So I put it off. When I went back to book a couple of days later that rate was gone - the cheapest (although still great for that hotel) was 209 Euros with an auto upgrade. Like I said, still great for that hotel, great with an upgrade, but just beyond our budget for this trip.
But we really want to stay there, so I figured we'd have to spend the extra. In the meantime I happened upon the city of Vienna's site at www.wien.info and out of curiousity plugged in my dates - and got the Grand Hotel Wien for 127 Euros a night! Granted, we won't get the auto upgrade, but still... that's a real bargain! They have some sort of rate averaging thing going on.
Anyway, it's worth a look!

Thanks for the info.
I will be in Vienna in late November, and my budget for hotel is a lot smaller than yours.
But I want to echo your point about the Vienna's Tourism website www.wien.info
I am staying at Pension Suzanne. I emailed the hotel and received a quote of €77 for a single room.
I went to www.wien.info they offer a lower rate for Pension Suzanne (€67 for first 2 nights, and €77 for third night).
As I prefer to deal with the Pension directly rather than a 3rd party, I wrote back to Pension Suzanne and told them about the discount offer I saw. They agreed to give me the same discount.

I'm glad you had good results too. we normally prefer to book directly with the hotels too, but in this case I'm glad I didn't, because....
I was actually a bit nervous about my situation and wrote to the booking site just to confirm.
They have just replied that the rate I was given was a mistake by the hotel (they only charged for the first and last night, which I thought was a bit odd).
However, it will be honored. Bonus!!
Hope you have a good trip, YK.

We've booked with them for our stay in December as well. We'll be arriving a bit later in the month than you.
I spent a week there a few years ago and it's a great hotel. If you will be there on a Sunday, their sushi brunch is excellent...they have the best Japanese restaurant in town.
FYI, don't bother with the still or sparkling water in the minibar; go up to the fitness center and help yourself to a bottle there--they are free up there. Or go to the below ground level supermarket in the attached shopping mall and stock up there.

Thanks for the tips, BTilke.
I did see in another post or two that you will be there this winter and some of the things you wrote about the hotel were what made me really want to stay there.
I am so looking forward to seeing a bit of Vienna!

We haven't found any sites giving us the Grand for less than 200 euro per night for our dates, including the wien.info site, alas no booking mistakes for us. But congrats on your terrific rate and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay!
