GRAND HOTEL LEVEQUE
I made a reservation here for myself & my boyfriend for 6 nights during New Years.
I have a few questions for people that have stayed here. If you are not satisfied with this hotel, can you reccomend a good hotel in the Saint_Germain area ?
1. Front room or back room ?
Right now I have a front room reserved, but am concerned with the noise. Has anyone ever stayed on the top floor with the balcony ? Will noise be a problem in the winter ? I will have the windows open.
2. Market
Is this on the same exact street as the market ? I thought it was down a quiet side street ? Is the market even open in the winter ?
3. Eating.
Last time we were in Paris we stayed at the Hotel Burgundy on Rue Duphot. We loved the location, but at night we were starving. Is there anywhere close by to eat near the Leveque that is open late-that we can walk to ?
thank you !

I have not stayed at the hotel, but have read good reviews about it here and elsewhere. But, just wanted to make a couple of comments:
* Yes, the hotel is right on Rue Cler, in the middle of the market street. It's not an outdoor marketplace, but a pedestrian street with shops all along. Because there are no cars on the street, it is most likely quiet even with a front room. Yes, the Rue Cler shops are open in the winter.
* Your hotel is not located in the Saint Germain area. I'm not sure if you thought it was, but your question of recommending a hotel located there made me think so. Your hotel is in the 7th, very near the Eiffel Tour. Saint Germain is a walkable distance, but further to the east than the area you are staying in.

This hotel is on Rue Cler and right above the street with the daily open market. The market opens up very early and it will be noisy. You will want a back room as it is a busy street with a lot of hub-bub going on. Why would you want to keep your windows open in the dead of winter? I was there in March (5 mos ago) and the weather was very cool then, downright chilly at times (we used the heater in the room). Dec/January will be freezing! The market still goes on, it provides a daily livelhood for the area shops, restaurants, residents.
There are a lot of restaurants in and around the area. You can walk up to Rue St-Dominique and eat at "La Fontaine de Mars" at 129 St-Dominique, as well as several other restaurants up and down the streets in the neighborhoods. We liked "La Poule in Pot" - a local place that served delicious Provence-style chicken with stewed vegetables, tomatoes, etc. as well as a superb selection of desserts. You will have a lot of options in the 7th Arr and neighboring 5th. Have fun!
