Paris hotel - Saint Germain

Anyone heard of or experienced the Hotel Saint Germain on Rue du Bac? Wondering how it compares with the Muguet. Found lots on the St. Germain de pres, but on a different street.

Thanks!

I don't know how it compares to the Muguet but my husband and I stayed there in Oct. of 2002 and we loved it. The room was small but confy with a large marble bathroom. The price would good and we walked everywhere from there. It's just a couple of blocks from the Seine. Wanda, at the front desk was very kind and assisted us in making reservations on the Bateaux-Mouches. It's a small hotel and rue de bac was very charming with a wine shop, cafe and several antique shops right next door to the hotel. The only drwback is that we had french doors that opened onto rue de bac and very early in the morning the green grocer across the street takes his deliveries so the street side rooms can be noisey. They have a small garden at the back of the hotel, maybe you could get a room back there if street noise bothers you. Enjoy!

Are you talking about Relais St. Germain?

Hotel Cayre.

I stayed there in July 2002. It was a great location and the staff was great (except for this one David Spade wannabe - he was VERY sarcastic, and obnoxious) and did everything they could to help us find the perfect meal, walking routes, etc. I would definitely say there again.

Seems it is just the Hotel Saint Germain. Appears to be a lot with similar names so only way to differentiate for sure is with the address - this one is on Rue du Bac. We are paying 180 euros and just wondering if it is worth it. I know the Muguet - stayed there a few years ago and I think it is more like 120 euros, so curious as to how they compare and what the report is on Saint Germain.

We haven't stayed at the Hotel Saint Germain but have been in the public rooms on the ground floor which are lovely. We've rented apartments on the rue du Bac on several occasions, and the area is one of our very favorites in Paris. I really like the eastern part of the 7th close to the 6th. There are great neighborhood shops, it's centrally located, and transportation is excellent. We've also stayed several times in the part of the 7th that is near the Eiffel Tower, Ecole Militaire, and rue Cler. We've enjoyed that area also, but not as much as the rue du Bac.

As you mentioned, there are a number of Paris hotels with the name Saint Germain. Even on the rue du Bac, there can be confusion between this hotel, the Hotel Saint Germain at 88 rue du Bac, and the Hotel Bac Saint Germain at 66 rue du Bac. Of the two, the one at 88 rue du Bac is the nicer in my view.

I haven't stayed there but have checked out this hotel while being there. I just loved it and I love the Rue de bac as well. Charming, quaint is what I remember. I stayed at the Hotel Lenox in the 6th. Enjoyed it and also noticed around the corner is a real charmer that just got renovated. Check it out . St.Thomas D'aquin Great location. Around the corner from the Cafe Flore.and many more amazing restaraunts. I love the 6th. Am going back this Sept. and was torn where to stay since this time I am going with a grilfriend and we're on a tight budget cause I want to go back to Europe again next year. So I decided this time I would try the 7th/Rue Cler. Next time I go back with my husband we will stay in the 6th again. He just loves it. Great shops to explore in too. Enjoy.

Thanks so much for your comments. Feel confident that we made the right decision then. I loved the 7th too, but my husband wants to try the 6th this time, so Hotel Saint Germain at 88 Rue du Bac it is. Any restaurants not to be missed? My husband loves gourmet French, but I prefer the more bistro type. Suggestions on either type would be appreciated. Thanks!

Over in the 13th is the wonderful bistro Au Petit Marguery. It has real Paris atmosphere and excellent food.

I've also heard good things about the Bistro de Breteuil.

Hi, based on the comments about Hotel Saint Germain at 88 rue du Bac, I checked the website. Well, the rooms look quaint I guess is the best description. But the picture of the bath looks a bit tiny and not too attractive-a round molded sink and not much else pictured.

Their rates for the largest rooms are kind of high-200 euros in low season w/out any breakfast included. So definitely it would be good to know if anyone's stayed at this hotel what are the rooms and especially the bathrooms really like.

Thanks!

I've stayed there and have responded. What do you care what the sink looks like? You're in Paris for God's sake.

Yeah, I know I'm in Paris. If I care about the sink that's my business.

You may want to post your question differently then so people that pay attention to that sort of thing can help you better.
