Well, I WOULD and I DO so does that make me stupid or something or is there a REASON a whole bunch of airlines abandoned those aisle-mounted monitors that were hard to see?

No, Dukey1, it doesn't make you stupid. It means that you choose to pass up lower fare for more amenities. That's what people do when they choose first or business, or choose, as you do, to value the entertainment option over the cheap price.

It also does not make those who choose--or must choose--to opt for the lower fare stupid or any other pejorative adjective.

Personally, I sleep or read on planes; when there's a seatback monitor I leave it on the trip-in-progress map. I'm less influenced by cabin amenities than I am by avoiding unnecessary stops or Heathrow. Everyone makes their own choices.

What I do find distressing is that in a thread that was started by Travelrob with no intent but to let people know about discount fares that may be their choice, or may make travel possible, that there has been so much argument about the amenities, and so little "Thanks, Rob, for keeping us up-to-date on these things!"

Not at all... completely your choice. On the other hand, I couldn't care less about in flight entertainment as getting to Europe only takes 6 1/2 hours and with an iPhone, iPod, laptop
and kindle I have all the entertainment I want with me. So paying even 100 bucks extra for a seat back screen doesn't interest me.

Thank you, travelrob. We have BA Chase miles, but as you say they are not so easy to redeem.

stokebailey-This year when one is able to fly to Europe in summer for less than $700rt total,it's good. The Berlin and Duesseldorf sale was valid for almost every date in summer .Just hope some were able to take advantage.
