Good Place to stop near S Marino

We will be driving from Venice to Ascoli Pacena area and it is a long leg. We were planning stops in Ravenna and San Marino. Any suggestions for a good town and/or hotel to spend a night? Heard San Marino might not be the best to stay overnite, any thoughts? Ascoli Picena is too long a haul. We could drive it but it wouldnt allow much time to see anything en route. Thanks for advising.

Hi Jddechomd, I am sorry, I do not know where Ascoli Pacena is. But I can tell you this. Twice, once driving north along the Adriatic and once driving south along the Adriatic we stayed in Pescara. The restaurants along the beach have the most fantastic fish and seafood dishes. Ravenna is also a favorite place of mine. Don't know if that is any help or not but wishes for a beautiful trip.

We stayed in San Marino once... in the very upper most part. We had no reservation (don't know if that would apply now) but there was a decent hotel on the main street... We had a balcony overlooking the valley. Late afternoon all the day trippers leave and you can stroll around at your leisure. There were several good restaurants.

Jd - If you don't mind a detour inland my suggestion would be Urbino.

Steve

P.S. LoveItaly - I think the poster meant Ascoli Piceno.

We have on two or three occasions used
the HOTEL TITANO, Contrada del Collegio, 32...which is a three star with 50 rooms, see www.hoteltitano.com.
Found this a very reasonable and excellant hotel, has good dining room along with the Rist. La Taverna in the
Pza Liberta. We had on all trips used
room # 43, excellant view and very clean. Parking was arrange thru the hotel and about a block away in a city lot..Richard of LaGrange Park, Il.
Its a very interesting city especially
in the evening when the tourists have
left. rjv

Consider the Villa Giulia in Pesaro/Fano area overlooking the Adriatic.

If it's convenient.. I second the Urbino suggestion. Much prefer it to San Marino.

Thanks for all the advice. Looking into Albergo San Domenico or Bonconte in Urbino vs the Villa Matarazza near Gradara. I am thinking Gradara might be aquiet place from which to see both Urbino and S marino. Then we will be heading for Ascoli Piceno on the way to Abruzzo
