kathryn, I stayed at the Caron de Beaumarchais.
Re:The street of bad boysthe Rue des Mauvais Garcons, which recalls the rowdy butcher's apprentices who lived there in the 15th century, or the Rue des Francs Bourgeois, named after its poor residents exempt from taxes.
One year we visited Condom, France.

Carrybean, yes they do both have a very loyal clientele. Did you happen to know Mary Pomeroy herself (of Mary's Boon)? She disappeared before I moved here but I have friends who knew her well and I understand she was quite the character.

In Perugia, we once stayed at the Hit Hotel. Seemed like an odd name, until we noticed all the mafiosi hanging around. Seriously.
A few were wiseguys from Chicago, and we overheard their dinnertime discussion of the first time they "whacked" someone.

Vagabond Lady...Greers Ferry Lake, eh...for many years I had a piece of raw property there. Got rid of it last year. With the profit, I was able to buy two new tires for my car!
A few more names...Ragged Point Inn, near Hearst Castle on Hwy. 1 in California.(we recommend)
Ty Gwenn b and b in La Baule, France...cute little cottage...have never figured out the translation in Welsh.
Hotel Antumalal in Pucon, Chile (fabulous place..means "corral of the sun" in Mapuche Indian dialect) It's stayed on our Top Ten List for ten years now.
Villa L'Arche, Bidart near Biarritz..wonderful place..also still on our Top Ten list, for 6 years now. I couldn't help thinking of charming Archie Bunker when we stayed there.

While working in Chillicothe, Ohio (Kenworth Truck Co,) I was told about a little town nearby called "Knockemstiff"..true!
