Good B&B's in Bath, Chester and York

I'm looking for suggestions for B&B's in central areas of Bath, Chester and York around 25pppn. We will be doing all our traveling on rail and would like to limit the amount of money spent on taxis by staying in more central areas within close distances of all the sites.

Thanks everyone!

I have no recommendations in your price range for Bath, but take a look at the Abbotsford Court Hotel in Chester and St. Raphael Guest House in York. Both within your price range and very good value for money. The Abbotsford Court is not within the city walls, but close to the train station and a 5 minute walk to the Northgate. It is slightly uphill from the train station to Abbotsford Court and the walking directions are a bit confusing, so a £4 or £5 cab ride may be worthwhile. The walk back is much more obvious and easy.
See http://www.cityofchester.org/abbotsford.html and http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/raphael.html

ron

In York we stayed at the Bootham Bar Hotel for about the price you mentioned. It is a short taxi ride from the train station. It is located just inside one of the old city gates a one block walk from the Minister. It was clean, comfortable, not fancy and served a nice breakfast. http://www.theaa.com/hotels/10655.html

I can recommend the following B & B which is just outside Walmgate Bar:
Barbican House
20 Barbican Road
York, YO10 5AA
Tel: 44 (0) 1904 627617
Fax: 44 (0) 1904 647140
Email: [email protected]

You can see photos through the www.smoothhounds.co.uk booking site.

The rooms are lovely and the host/hostess very friendly. It's convenient to the Castle Museum and a pleasant walk to the north end where the Minster is located.

I stayed at the Brompton House in Bath last month, and it was wonderful. About a 6 minute walk to the Baths/center of town (flat walk, no hills), great breakfast, good sized rooms with big bathrooms. It was about 60 GBP for a double, so only a little over your budget. Check out www.bromptonhouse.co.uk. It was on a quiet street with hardly any cars - I'd highly recommend it.

In York I suggest the Bar Convent B&B. It is not fancy but is the oldest convent in England. It also has a very interesting museum. It is only a short walk from the Railway station (200 meters).www.bar-convent.org.uk In Chester Walpole House is a very nice 4 diamond B&B just a few minutes outside the WALL. www.WalpoleHouse.com. Or you might try www.roomcheck.co.uk/chester/
