Getting to the Westin Vendome

Does anyone know if there is public transportation we could take to get to the Westin Vendome? We have a family of seven (all adults) so I think we would need multiple taxi's or "private cars". I would rather save the money for other more important things if at all possible.

Where will you be arriving from - airport? Train? etc.

I assume this hotel is in Paris? If so, there are metro stations throughout, including very close to Place Vendome. If you provide where you're coming from, mapping a public transit route and giving you tips how to accomplish it will be easy...

Wow, I really left out important information. We will be flying into Paris via the DeGaulle airport. Thanks for your patience with me and Ny help you can provide.

No worries! That helps.

Looks like the Westin is about halfway between the Place Vendome and the Tuileries. It's a few blocks' walk from any metro station, something you may or may not want to deal with upon arrival. (Once you're without luggage, it's a good central location.)

For public transit, I see two options:
1) Take the Roissybus from CDG to Opera (the only stop). It will be about six long blocks to walk from the dropoff BUT it's a straight line from the Opera through the Place Vendome to your hotel, and the streets and sidewalks are wide there. (Believe me, lugging a large wheelie bag down narrow Parisian cobblestoned side streets is something I have put myself through one too many times!!)

The downside is that you'll be "schlepping" past some of the wealthiest properties in the city. (Talk about the typical tourist LOL.) Instead, you could spend your taxi money getting from Opera to the Westin in style.

[There could well be a city bus you could use; I never was any good at knowing the Parisian lines.]

Roissybus:

2) If you want to take a "subway" as close to your hotel as possible, take the RER B from CDG, descend at Chatelet-Les Halles and transfer to the M1 metro line, direction La Defense, and get off at the Tuileries stop, which is about two blocks from your hotel.

Despite the fact that I almost always end up taking the RER from the airport, I don't particularly recommend it, especially when there's a good alternative with the coach bus. The RER is a commuter train: no specified area for your luggage, plenty of everyday travelers (gets much more crowded as you enter the city), and not a very long time in each station in which to collect your things and get out. Then there's the transfer from RER to Metro at Chatelet: turnstiles you must get you and your luggage through to go from the RER part of the system to the Metro part, long corridors (some with "people movers") and stairs... stairs again to get out of the Metro. IMO, much better to get to know the system at some other point then when you're jet-lagged and carting luggage around!

// This page has some links and other useful information about public transportation from the airports (if you can get past the terrible web design-!):

You can have a private transfer from CDG to your hotel with Shuttle Inter for €90 for your family. That works out to about €12-13 per person. This service has been recommended by many on this forum.

To get from the Metro to the Westin is across a very busy intersection that I would not try with luggage.

Thank you all for the detailed information and links for transportation options. I think we are going to go with one of the shuttle services recommended above. Seems to be the best and a practical option for us. Thank you all again!!
