Getting from Napoli to Positano

I've just booked a hotel in Positano, Villa Rosa. We are arriving to Napoli from London and then plan to go directly to Positano. What's the best way to get there? The Positano hotel staff offered to book a taxi for us that would pick us up in Napoli airport and take to Positano for 99 euros. Is that reasonable?
Their other option was to take a train to Sorrento and then a bus to Positano. What do you suggest? Thanks!

If the cost isn't a problem for you, take the taxi your hotel will arrange. it could save lots of hassle.

Here are your options from the Naples Capodichino Airport:

1. Taxi direct to hotel for 99 Euros (a bit steep but still ballpark; you might be able to find a slightly less expensive limo service)

2. Taxi to Naples Mergellina hydrofoil dock (20/25 Euros), followed by hydrofoil direct to Positano (June through September only)

3. Taxi to Naples Central Train Station (20 Euros) [there is also a local bus], followed by half-hourly Circumvesuviana Train to Sorrento, followed by hourly SITA bus to Positano (not convenient if you have lots of heavy luggage)

4. Curreri Airporter Bus direct to Sorrento (departures at 9 a.m., 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m.), followed by SITA bus to Positano.

You could also take a taxi from Sorrento to Positano, which is less expensive than from the Airport. Many of the hotels in Positano are not conveniently located to the SITA bus stop or to the hydrofoil dock, requiring the negotiating of steep steps up or down. A taxi is therefore much more convenient if you have heavy luggage.

Run a search on "Naples to Positano" and you'll pull up several threads that go into detail on travel options to get to Positano. If you'll be there between June-September, you also have the option of taking a hydrofoil to Positano. Price quoted by your hotel (99 euros) sounds about right --- and I'm making that assessment from comments on prior threads (Steve & Vincenzo appear to be two of our Amalfi coast experts).

I've done the public transport schlep (Rome to Naples train, Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento, SITA bus to Positano) --- it's alot cheaper than taxi, however it's also alot more tiring.

Important question - is there really a hydrofoil from Naples direct to Positano or do you have to go to Sorrento and then taxi over to Positano???

There is indeed a direct Naples (Mergellina) to Positano hydrofoil from June through September (four to five per day). However, it will not operate during rough sea conditions. It departs from Mergellina, NOT Molo Beverello. There are also seven hydrofoils from Naples Beverello to Sorrento, year round. And there is hourly bus service from Sorrento to Positano and onwards to Amalfi. There is also hourly bus service from Amalfi to Salerno and from Amalfi up the hill to Ravello.

The train to Sorrento, bus to Positano is ok - but if you can afford the $80, this might be the time to splurge for the taxi. It's also more reliable if you have connection issues as the the bus is often late.

Take the taxi. The drive is rather strenuous and you will be happy to arrive at your destination without getting lost. The cost is fine.
