Geneva or Montreaux
We are flying into Geneva and have one night there on our inward and outward journeys, late July or early August. Which place is the better to stay in - Geneva or Montreaux?
Any info on good hotels would be appreciated too. Thank you.

Hi Yvonne11,
If you like staying in a real city, you should stay in Geneva. But if you prefer a smaller town, you should stay in Montreux.
How much do you want to spend on a hotel? My favorite is the Victoria in Glion, above Montreux. Another good one is the Eden Palace au Lac.
Have fun!

It depends what you are doing the next day. Do you need to be in Geneva for an early flight or something?
That said, I much prefer Montreux or Vevey! I love those towns and have spent quite a bit of time there. Geneva doesn't do much for me (a cold business-like feel to it imo).

Geneva gets a bad rap, it is worth spending an evening there. Plus, if you have an early flight in or out, it is a 6 minute ride to the airport from the central station, with trains coming every 10 minutes. Couldn't be more convenient.
However, I agree with everyone that Montreax or Vevey would give you the sense that you saw another neat European village, whereas Geneva is just a big business town (reminds me of Milan in that way).

Hi all,
Well I've walked from Glion to Montreux a few times -- but it wasn't pretty, lol! Especially in August --
Anyway, there is a funicular from Glion that runs every 15 minutes and takes you smack to Territet. Or you can take the train, but it only runs every other hour or so.
If you don't stay at the Victoria, try to get up there for a drink on their terrace at least. Views are smashing.

Thank you all for your advice. I think I will stick with the Eden Palace. I did think about the Du Port in Villeneuve until I saw your comments on the place Swandav.
Also the Eden Palace have come back with a pretty good price for the rooms we require. Again your help is much appreciated.
