Geneva Airport Arrival

We are arriving in Geneva and I vaguely recall reading on this board about the differences between exiting on the Swiss vs French side of the airport, but cannot recall the issues.

We have a Mountain Dropoff transfer from Geneva airport to Chamonix. The transfer document says we will be met on the Swiss side.

We will probably go to an ATM for euros before meeting Mountain Dropoff.

Is there anything I should be aware of regarding exiting on the Swiss side vs. the French side? Like arrival fees or other "surprises"?

Appreciate your help.

You'd be well advised to bring some euros with you.

I believe there are ATMs that dispense both CHF (Swiss Francs) and Euros in the airport, but do check on that.

That was might thought as well. Can you get Euro in a Swiss airport? My assumption was you'd get only CHF??

I've gone thru Geneva quite a few times, but I was catching a train out to Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux. I wasn't even aware of the "two sides".

I've only used one of the ATMs at the train station and that one dispensed Swiss Francs. I would ASK someone at the airport information desk about an ATM which dispenses Euro.

The "French sector" of the airport is not that big as you can see on the map:

https://www.gva.ch/en/Portaldata/1/R...lan-T1-gva.pdf

The map does not indicate any ATM locations on the French side nor any money exchange locations.

Again, I would ask someone in the airport about getting Euro.

YOu can get euro in Swiss airports on the border of two countries. I was just in Basel airport and you could there, as I recall. It also is in two countries, so there are ATMs in both countries, for one thing. Also, I sort of recall there are many ATMs in Switzerland where you can get either choice, at least in Basel there were, so that is common on the border.

No problem. France and Switzerland are both in the Schengen zone, so the only difference is currency, and Swiss ATM distribute both Swiss francs and euros. The ATM will ask you which currency you want. Even the parking meters in Switzerland accept either francs or euros.
