Gas Prices in Czech Republic

We are trying to decide whether to take trains or rent a car for trips outside of Prague, like to Brno, etc.

Want to know what the gas prices are like there now and if there are any better train deals that Eurorail, which seems kind of pricey.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can find prices/schedules on the Czech rail website

http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/JRCis.asp?tt=c&cl=E5

Prague to Brno is 400Kc, or about $25US for fastest train (SuperCity)

You can purchase tickets in Prague.

Unleaded 95 (super gasoline) costs an average of €1.24/liter in local currancy in the Czech Republic these days. Diesel would be €1.28/liter, regular unleaded €1.17/liter.
Prices are usually higher in border regions with Germany, where gas is even more expensive.

Thanks for the information on trains. So it seems it will cost my family of 3 almost $75 just to get to Brno. If we go anywhere else by train, it could get rather costly. I think perhaps a car is the way to go.

Good information on gas prices, thanks everyone for your help.

Assume $8 a gallon. Europeans rate car mileage as liters per 100 kilometers. Michelin can get you estimated costs. Inquire of the rental agency about kilometers per liter. Check bus fares. There are many private trip services, again inquire.

Well, not quite. $75 would be max price.

here are discounts or fares on other trains I found (i.e EC Train) @ 2hrs 45min, which is 15min faster than the faster SC train.

Full fare, EC train 314Kc
Student fare (up to 15 for 110Kc
Student fares (15-26 for 141Kc)
Retiree (157Kc)

There may also be family discounts or advanced purchase discounts, or round trip fares.

These are details a ticket agent in Prague can tell you.
