Salthill B&B's, although in a very nice area, are generally a bit more expensive than those on College Road, or Father Griffin road(?) for example. You also may encounter some difficulty finding lodging for a single night in Salthill (it's a beach resort area).

I'll second the recommendation for Marless House. Stayed there for a three days in few years back and found it to be very comfortable and reasonably priced (although this was before the Euro changeover). There's a bus stop just a block away that can take you into the city center.
Galway's a lovely place. Have fun!

We spent three nights at the Marless House in Salthill earlier this month and found it to be a very nice place to stay. It is less than a block from Galway Bay, which has a long promenade to walk along the bay. The bus stop is just around the corner and Mary, our hostess, was very helpful with information regarding which bus to ride and where to go. And her breakfasts were delicious. She has a website at www.marlesshouse.com. Rates were 33 euros for a double. There are quite a few restaurants within walking distance and it was easier to take the bus into Galway City than it was to drive and try to park there.
