Galeries Lafayette Fashion Shows

I've made reservations to attend a fashion show with my neice next month. Have any of you been to one of these? Did you enjoy it? Can you tell me what it was like?

My daughter and I saw the fashion show at GL and enjoyed it. There is a large room filled with chairs and small tables. Many American tourists, and the commentary is in English, but oh well...

The models walk around the room so you get a fairly close look at most of the fashions. A small snack is provided (drinks and cookies?). I think it lasted about an hour.

I've done the show three times now, with different companions each trip. It's a fun hour (actually a bit less than an hour). The models and the clothes are beautiful, and even wearable if one is young and the right size. The tables and snacks have been eliminated; this April it was just rows of chairs. Photos are allowed, and the models walk the room so no matter where you sit you can get some good shots. When you leave, take the escalator right outside the door to the roof for a great view of the city. Although the show itself is free, it can be an expensive morning because one is tempted to shop your way down the seven floors. If you go to the visitor's desk on the first floor with a copy of your passport or a driver's license, you get a discount card good for the day and after spending about 30E you can go back and pick up a free GL tote bag.

My daughter and I went and enjoyed it, although it was in July and VERY HOT and stuffy. Because of that, we were kind of relieved when it was over.

Grasshopper, if you send your email to me at [email protected], I can send you the link to my Ofoto site where I have photos of the show. And, just a reminder, you do need to take your printout of the reservation confirmation to show at the door.

Thanks everyone. My neice is 17 so this will be a perfect thing for her first trip to Paris! Palette, I emailed you. Thanks so much! Hopefully this July will be cooler in Paris than last July.

My husband and I attended the GL fashion show in the spring of 2002. It was a really neat experience. It was fun to see my husband's reaction to the price of the outfits, hoping all the while I would not actually see one I was interested in purchasing.

I have a friend who will be in Paris in early July. She's a fashion design student and I'm sure she would be interested in the show. Can you give a little more information about when it is and how one can obtain tickets? Thanks!

The fashion shows are on Tues. at 11:00 am. You need to get reservations online (at www.galerieslafayette.com, no more than one month in advance. The show lasts 50 minutes.
