This ban on liquids or gels in the cabin on international flights can actually be very liberating. Just think, no pressure to "doll up" before landing because there is nothing to doll up with. Are you meeting the paparazzi?

If you were going to spend the time estimated for a flight (in air time) at home, what would you require? If I'm settling in for an evening at home, it's not like I'm surrounding myself with liquids and creams and gels.

I wear cosmetics just like the next girl. Lord knows I wouldn't leave home without them, but if I can't refresh my face before landing, I'm okay with that. I don't like it, but I don't make the decisions.

This is my face. My real face. We can truly live with that.

My touch-up has usually been limited to lipstick anyway; so no big change. At the end of a long flight I can barely keep my eyes open, let alone put on mascara!

That part doesn't bother me either. As long as I can brush my teeth (tooth powder or hopefully Biz Class still has the amenities bag,) that's my main concern.

Of course, I'm not 25 years old & as concerned with perfect make-up either.

It's annoying really and not necessarily freeing, esp if one has a meeting in Europe upon arrival and need to put something on to freshen up. Upon departure at LAX, the TSA took my Covergirl lipstick (the 12 hour eat-anything and-it-doesn't-come-off-your-lips kind) and my favorite because never have to remember to re-touch it or anything. You can imagine my disgruntlement when they confiscated it as I am leaving for my 2 week trip. I had to wait 2 days before I got to a pharmacy store in Italy to buy something. Ridiculous really, as if a .35 oz lipstick could be a threat?! Sigh..hopefully the restrictions will be lifted soon.

You can take your chapstick; it's a solid (not a shape-shifer/changeling like Odo).

My apologies. I did not read Rapunzll's thread about not taking cosmetics aboard before posting my thread. As she is much more eloquent than I, I can only bow before her observation and agree with her 100 percent. We must have been thinking alike on this Friday afternoon/evening.

I have always carried my cosmetics on with me, but mostly so that if my bags were lost I would still leave my hotel each day.

Never too concerned about freshening up before leaving the airport, because I usually get my luggage and then head for the loo before I leave anyway - I just freshen up then.

No apology needed Loisde! The subjects are related, but different. I don't personally worry too much about the toiletries I can't bring on with me, I figure I can always get what I need after landing. Even if my baggage is lost or delayed.

What is the attraction of all these potions?

I'm a little worried about it. I'm flying NZ to Vienna, total 28 hours travel time, can't imagine the flight without toothpaste, chapstick and a large bottle of water. Friends are collecting us at the airport on arrival - don't want to be stinking and smelling!!!

sashh, I'm with you, totally. I'm as vain as the next person, but my attitude is that if makeup is necessary for me to be attractive, I'd rather be unattractive. Besides, my dh has always hated that "made-up" look...and he has pretty good taste (but of course!)

Bring an orange for your liquid (and it has more vitamins in the juice)
We really don't need more than a blush on if pale and lipstick.
Mascara, liner you can pack for night time.
