Business & First Class Goodie Bags

I've only upgraded on United, but I love those little pouches that they give you with a toothbrush, tooth paste, crummy eye shade and footsies. I haven't flown since last year and I'm wondering if they are still including toothpaste in the pouch????

Years ago I ordered many (!) of those sponges on a stick saliva activated toothbrushes from Magellan. I think I used maybe one or two of them and kept meaning to toss them ..just like I've 'meant' to toss so many other unused travel accessories.

I just tried one, they obviously have the lifespan of a cockroach, and it was OK, better than nothing.

Do you have to empty tooth powder out in a baggie or can you keep it in the can?

I have never been so concerned with in flight hygiene as I am now

FYI - I found this out the hard way years ago in Paris. I had no luck asking for 'toothpaste', then I found out that it was called dentafrice (sp), makes sense to me.

I hear you Nina, the last time we were upgraded on Delta, we got the little goody bags with the cute all in one toothbrush and paste, don't know about now however, but I don't see why not.

Nina, none of my business really but I hope when you say "meant to toss them" that you really mean "donate to people who could use them." There's a great need for personal hygiene products among those in difficult circumstances...

Actually 29 Feb, that is exactly what I do. I take all of the soaps, shampoos, shower caps, sewing kits, lotions, airline toothpaste, ear plugs, tooth bushes, etc. that I deliberately bring back from my trips, and 'toss' them into a bag and take them to a homeless shelter near my old job.

Sorry for the poor choice of words.

I do the same with other unwanted or unneeded household gadgets or supplies.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I agree...and am sorry the bright folks at TSA didn't remember that on the days following the most recent change in the rules.

You can imagine where all of THAT stuff ended up.

Hi Dukey, I wondered about that also. I would imagine that possibly there were a lot of unopened hygeine products that were "tossed" wherein they could have gone to people in need. But if that happened I sure didn't hear about it.

There has been a fair amount of discussion of the "stuff" that went into those "bins", over on flyertalk.com

And the funny thing is - - if a terrorist DID have some genuinely explosive contraband in his carry-on on August 10 (or even today)...

...he had no need to sweat. He just threw it into the bin. He was never identified. There was never any connection to him. No official of any kind never had to know what he was prepared to do.

And he lived another day - - to formulate another plan - - and think through some other method.

Armed with the willingness to commit suicide, the danger he carried was in his head - - not in any bottle of liquid.

Best wishes,

Rex

Uh Rex, I haven't read that article yet but good heavens, your comment is so true! Maybe we need you to be in charge of airport security. It is a strange world we live in.

I'm not uniquely wise. Most everybody, chewing these issues over on flyertalk, would be better at making and implementing TSA policyies/procedures than what we're experiencing now.

Rex, you may not be uniquely wise, but you are very wise indeed. I remember your comments (on a retirement thread I think) re end of life issues, thought they could stand alone as an essay and mentally bookmarked you!

Aw shucks... I did re-read some of what I wrote there. Generally quite a bit NOT mainstream thinking, and substantially challenged by any number of folks here.

As I recall, I agreed with you (but my memory isn't all that great) but wasn't that about not going to extreme measures to extend life?

Anyway, AA has nice amenities in Biz class with the mouthwash, toothbrush, paste, lots of little moisturizers, socks, mask, etc. I'd love to know if they still do on trans-Atlantic these days.

I think the easiest way out of this mess is to accede to the wishes of the jihadists.

This could be accomplished by electing an administration that is willing to work tirelessly towards ensuring a safe homeland for the Jews in Israel and justice in Palestine for the Arabs. Oh, and getting us independent of Saudi oil and the hell off the Arabian peninsula.

They don't hate us "because of our freedom." They hate us because we've chosen sides against them in a centuries-old turf war.

I've heard and read more sense from Rex and Robespierre here than I've heard from Washington and London

Robespierre, don't the Jews and Arabs want the SAME patch of desert ? I am Australian and I don't think we get a very good viewpoint presented to us. I was also under the impression that the jihadist don't like us (thats the generic us!!) because we aren't jihadists ??

Yes - the territorial claims are what's at issue. And we have no business with a dog in their fight.

America in the role of an honest broker working towards peace, even if unattainable, is a far safer posture for us than being saddled with the guilt by association we suffer from condoning Israel's actions and condemning those of the Arabs.

Jihad is not about turf. It's about getting all the infidels six feet under it.

I actually take some comfort in at least knowing that I am one (an infidel). Like Jimmy Carter, I have committed lust, in my heart; I don't immediately flip off the TV when a Victoria's Secret commercial comes on. I have drunk alcohol, and repeatedly, and to excess, more than once. I have sent my daughters to every educational opportunity they sought.

I understand that I am the enemy they seek to wipe off the face of the earth, because I am sinful in these ways, and I do not believe.

But Victoria's Secret wasn't mentioned in bin Laden's answer when Peter Arnett asked why he declared jihad upon the United States. Look it up and see what was.

I don't think the creation of (another) Islamist state poses anywhere near as much of a threat to me as the existence of our unbalanced foreign policy.
