Franche-Comte Area Family Accommodations

I have finally found my 4 ff tickets for France next August, but will have to fly in and out of CDG vs. out of Switzerland like we had hoped. After a week in Paris, I want to go somewhere beautiful with small villages similar to Switzerland, but in France. My French teacher recommended this area, and it looks just like what I want, somewhere not very touristy.

Has anyone traveled this area with children and found family rooms? They are teens, so we could also do 2 rooms if inexpensive enough. We're hoping to keep our costs to around $200/night. I appreciate any advice.

Other possibilities would be the Alsace-Lorraine region or French Alps. I'm looking through my Silencehotel booklet that I picked up on my last trip and everything over that way looks great. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi A,

I have perused my map of Franche-Comte and concluded that I would rather stay somewhere in Alsace.

I think that you can find accomodations in your price range at www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/index.htm for both Franch-Comte and Alsace.

If you are returning to Paris, the TGVest goes between Paris and Strasbourg in about 2:30 hr.

Enjoy your visit.

Thank you!! I found more in a few minutes on the website links you provided than I've found in hours trying to find this on my own.

Ira,the family room info on the logis de france is excellent. Can you tell me what you like in the Alsace region?

We've never been anywhere in France except Paris, and our itinerary is wide open on this trip for 7-9 days outside of Paris. We loved the beauty of Switzerland so much, and would like to find something similar in a small town way within France. Last trip we stayed in both Zermatt and Gruyeres, and loved each. Staying in France in both a wine AND cheese region will be a definite plus.

Sorry to keep posting my own replies...

I'd actually like to split the 7-9 days into 2 destinations, so would like some recommendations of cities to pair. Also, we would like to have a couple of nice hikes/walks. I had read that at Arbois there is an incredible 9 mile hike.

Hi A,

>Ira,...Can you tell me what you like in the Alsace region?

Only been there once, but we will be returning to the http://perso.orange.fr/schwendi/index.htm
in Kientzheim.

I think that that might be outside your budget.

>I'd actually like to split the 7-9 days into 2 destinations...

I think that Alsace is not large enough to make changing venues worthwhile. You might like to spend a couple of nights in Nancy, or split your visit of 9 nights into Burgundy and Alsace.

>We've never been anywhere in France except Paris...<

Paris and France are 2 different countries.

Enjoy your visit.

Ira, I'm looking for you! I LOVE the looks of Kientzheim aka Kayserberg (?). I also think the Hotel Schwendi may be in our budget. I've emailed, you never know until they confirm the rates. I also saw this hotel: Hotel Les Remparts http://www.lesremparts.com/en/accueil_en.html
Did you see this one as well? Could we situate ourselves in this city easily without a car? It looks like there's a train from Colmar.
