France Driving Q - Richelieu to Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie?
Planning a driving trip in France from Orleans to the seaside in Vendee - Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and planning to overnight first at Richelieu
But from Richelieu to the seaside i cannot seem to find anything on the map that would make a good trip interruptus - a few-hour stop at some old castle - nice old town, etc. Or a good place to take a walk in a state forest, etc.
Any ideas?
Merci!

St-Loup Lamaire has a nice castle, though it might be private, not sure. Anyway, it's a pretty village, and the Lac du Cebron is nearby for swimming. St-Michel Mont Mercure is another pretty town.

StCirq - thanks for responding to a question that few would be able to comment on - this being one of France's less traveled routes for tourists - even French tourists.
Again, merci
Again, merci

Hi Pal,
we just got back from spending a week in a gite slightly to the west of Richelieu.
truthfully, it wasn't hugely exciting, but one place you mgiht be interested in is the Chateau Oiron, at the village of the same name. it holds the french national collection of curioes and modern art - see http://www.oiron.fr/
if your taste runs to installations of revolving skeletons of camels [we think], stuffed composite animals [like a swabbit, or a squish] and other weird stuff, this is the place for you. From Richelieu, take the road to Loudun, stay on the D759 until Has de jeu [or that's what it looks like on my map], then turn left for Oiron.
have a great trip,
regards, ann
