Four Points Sheraton Roma West

Has anyone stayed at this hotel in Rome? I realize that it is outside of the city near the airport, but they do have a free shuttle to downtown. I am considering it because it takes a lot fewer Starwood points, so we can stay longer.

TTT. Also want to know if area is residential or business and if there are restaurants, shops, convenience stores or supermarkets nearby.

I know I'm going to sound rude but this logic always irritate me. If you were going to NYC, planning to spend all your time seeing the sights of NYC, would you stay in a hotel in Newark airport because it was cheaper? I would venture the answer from most people, even those traveling in a very tight budget would be a resounding NO!!!!!! The same should apply to a city like Rome. Even if you have to stay in a 2 star hotel or in a pensione, as long as it's clen and in the center of Rome it's preferable to a hotel who knows where in the outskirts of town.

Richard-- I have stayed at the Sheraton Roma- it is a great modern hotel with all the US conveniences...But there is a park across the street that has hookers in it--so you should not walk thru there at nite....

It is a 20 min ride from the airport-they have NO airport shuttle.

Downside-they are way out of town and if I were going to want to see Rome, I seriously would stay in the CITY rather that in the outskirts--

We used the hotel because the cruise we were catching was using it as a pick up point.....

Hi Richard,
I would call the area more "industrial" and it is fairly deserted at night except for all the vice activities. No walking to anything as nothing near by. I have stayed there only on the night before flights out and other wise would follow above suggestions and try to stay more in the swing of things. It really is a nice hotel but I think you would regret staying there as a base for a several day Rome visit.

Richard:
When you go to Des Moines stay in a Sheraton.
In Rome opt for a smaller hotel in the Centro Storico.

Thanks to all for your input. I will save my Starwood points for some other time and stay at a hotel in town. There are a lot of suggestions on other posts that I will take into consideration so no further input is needed.
