While Robespierre can indeed be a bit sarcastic at times, I haven't been offended by anything he said. In fact, I've found his suggestions for things I was missing on my page to be helpful in improving the page.

Maybe I always look on the good side, but you can't be too sensitive if you post here. And for some reason, it's very easy to perceive posts as hostile, when they were sometimes intended just as gentle ribbing.

Robespierre, I knew about the character entities which you pointed out are missing from my table. The reason I didn't put them in is because my table is specifically oriented toward Fodor's postings, and Fodor's doesn't accept them.

Try it out. The text:

¹ - ¹ - superscript 1
² - ² - superscript 2
³ - ³ - superscript 3
¼ - ¼ - fraction 1/4
½ - ½ - fraction 1/2
¾ - ¾ - fraction 3/4

produces the result:

¹ - ¹ - superscript 1
² - ² - superscript 2
³ - ³ - superscript 3
¼ - ¼ - fraction 1/4
½ - ½ - fraction 1/2
¾ - ¾ - fraction 3/4

The &quot;character entity&quot; &amp;sup1; is <i>not</i> accepted by Fodor's - it appears on the page exactly as it was typed. Only the corresponding &quot;numerical entity&quot; &#185; produces the desired result (a superscript one). That's why I left those particular six character entities out of my table - if people used them, they would find they don't work.

Hey I think you're a genius too Robespierre...and yes, I think you're a genius because you know all these neat little things about HTML codes and what have you...so there!!

The real question of course is just what <b>IS <font color="gold">ja</font>gir<font color="green">l's</font></b> definition of genius?!

Thanks for those extra codes BTW

Thanks, but I don't understand what the following instructs me to do: &quot;<b>Bold</b>&quot;

Perhaps others are similarly uninformed.

Very informative, thanks so much, Larry. I was <i>just</i> wondering how to format my posts.

Thanks for topping this. Now know how to make posts in color to annoy that person who complains about such things.

I was just about to copy the reference HTML code tables from a fat book when I came across this thread. This discussion and your web page, Larry, will cover about 95% of my needs. Thank you and keep up the good work. And thanks to noe847 for topping.

This post couldn't have come at a better time. I've perused these boards hunting and gathering for the last 2 years while researching for our Italy trip which we recently returned.

I'm getting ready to post my trip report and now I have all the tools I need to make it easy and to read.

Thank you!

I'm the original poster. I'm re-visiting this old thread because I'm moving my Fodors Formatting web page to a new location. It can now be found at:

http://ljkrakauer.com/tags.htm

The version of the page at comcast.net, given in the original post, will soon disappear.
