For Ira or others who stayed at Hotel Gutenberg in Strasbourg

Upon reading a recent post about the noise from the disco near H. Gutenberg, I e-mailed the hotel and requested we be given a quiet room. They responded by saying they will put us in a "room with no view facing the yard." ( someone else wrote about a tiny, windowless room off the breakfast area, and that sounds dreadful, too.)

Does anyone familiar with the hotel have an opinion if this would be a good thing? We are paying for a superior room, so should I ask for something quiet but with a view or would overlooking the yard be ok in your opinion? We wouldn't mind ordinary street noise, especially if we could have a view of the cathedral, but we don't want to sacrifice quiet for a view if it means being near the disco.

Hotel Gutenberg responded to my questions twice. Very nice of them and quite efficient. They recommended the room with the yard view even after I queried them about the cathedral view, so I am satisfied. Seems like a nice hotel with good customer service.

I don't have any specific advice, but I'm sure they won't lead you astray. We stayed in one of their cheaper top floor rooms last year and it was very quiet. We also heard stories about the disco and I'm very sensitive to noise, but we heard nothing. Even walked past it one night coming home to the hotel and it was relatively tame -- a few folks standing outside, but that was it.

The staff was very pleasant, the place is spotless, and it's a great location. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. Have a great trip!

Hi Map, We were there the nights of Wed and Thurs, so the disco might have been closed.

We were facing the cathedral. No problems with street noise at all.

Ask to see the room before you have your luggage brought up. I'm sure that the staff will move you, if necessary.

Enjoy your stay.

Thank you for your replies. I feel comfortable with putting ourselves in the hands of the hotel.

We were recently there on a Friday and Saturday night. We had a cathedral view and kept the window open at night. There was some light street noise early (people walking and talking) and a group of drunks walking down the street later. That was it.
