we are staying in Maastricht for that part of our trip. I know it's not that near Venlo, but close enough I hope.

reikiki - what else is there to see in/near Venlo, besides the floriade?

I stayed in Venlo 4 days a year for ten years and IMO there is nothing of special interest in Venlo itself - there is some kind of WW2 military cemetery/memorial not far from it I believe and the area is especially known for its white Spargels - asparagus (sp?).

riekki - thanks for the DeWeerd update!

Have not been to Den Bosch but have been to Breda zillions of times - having stayed many times at a camping in nearby Oosterhour. Breda is a pleasant town but nothing exceptional and I would not ever call it a good base for Venlo or most places folks want to go - I mean you can find a really nice town closer to things than this pleasant but for Holland ho-hum town IMO.

Just stummbeled in to this request. I live in Venlo and will be working at the Floriade 2012.

My best recommendation is to get a small hotel or gaststätte just over the boarder in Germany. Venlo is only 2 miles away from the german boarder and prices there are 50% cheaper as in the Netherlands.
Dont go to find a hitel ir something in amsterdam or rotterdam, it will take you 2 hours te get to Venlo.

Also find info on www.floriade.nl its the official site.

Good luck and perhaps we meet here

Frans

Hi frans - thanks for the info.

we are going at the end of April - would you advise prebooking our tickets? i can't see that there is any discount for doing so, so what if any are the advantages?
