I stayed at the Orto de Medici for a week in 2002 and really liked it once I upgraded from a large but very gloomy single room to a huge double room with a view over the terrace/garden at the back. The staff were very nice, the location is great (just round the corner from San Marco and perhaps a 5 minute walk from the Duomo)and the terrace an oasis of peace and quiet.
I booked it via venere.com which seems very reliable and provides reviews of most of the hotels it offers.

Hi mars10.
I haven't stayed at any of the hotels you're considering, but the May 2004 issue of Conde Nast Traveler lists the Relais Uffizi as an unbeatable value for large rooms, high wood-beamed ceilings, four-poster canopy beds and breakfast overlooking the Piazza della Signoria.
Other hotels it lists (for good value) are Locanda de'Ciompi, and Morandi alla Crocetta.
Wish I was going!
