Florence car rental

We will be in Florence in March and want to rent a car for a day to drive the quiet country roads. Any suggestions for a rental place? Do the rentals include insurance?

Hi

I went to Florence with my wife in July and we rented a car from Avis. I have posted some more info in my trip report from Florence. Check it out on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/florence_italy_travelogue.htm

Thank you. I will check these both out. We went to France several years ago and used Avis also.

We rented through Kemwel, and picked up our car from Europcar. We walked to the train station and took the bus from the train station to the airport to pick up the car, and were glad we did. It was an easy drive out to the country. Others may suggest renting the car in the city, I just know we were glad to go to a little extra effort to start our travels outside of the city and all its traffic. Kemwel's rate included all insurance, I believe. annieladd

Hi A,

>Do the rentals include insurance?

Italian law requires that you take the CDW.

You will need an International Driver's Permit as well as your license.

See www.aaasouth.com/travel_drivers.asp#idp

Just returned from a wonderful 3 week trip to Italy. We returned our rental car in Florence at Auto Europa on Via Borgognissanti which is located in Florence not at the airport. It was great since we were able to walk back to where we were staying after returning the car. There was also an Avis and Auto Europe rental office on the street. It would save travelling to the airport since you will already be in Florence and the location is convenient.

I've looked at AutoEurope and Europe by Car and they require either a 3 day or 7 day minimum. Did anyone have trouble with this? I just want a car for one day.

Thanks

I have had a problem with their minimum on occasion; try Avis and some of the other major names, as well as Tiger Car Rental and other Italian companies..

Also, give AutoEurope's sister agency, Kemwell, a call; they are based in the US. We used them for a short rental last spring in France and the price was very inexpensive..

As for the CDW, if you buy travel insurance, ask if they cover CDW. We rented from Autoeurope, I think with Hertz, in Norway, and when my husband scraped the car against a post after an exhausting day of driving, the travel insurance paid for the whole thing --

Also, travel insurance is a great idea if you are going to have a lot of non-cancellable reservations. I once broke a bone in my foot and had to give up a 2-week trip to Italy with my daughter and grandchildren (Talk about bummed out!). But my costs were paid for.
