Five Nights in Paris

My sixteen year old granddaughter and I will be in Paris for five nights starting June 29, 2011. I would appreciate suggestions for hotels. I would love to pay less than $150/night if that is possible. Clean and a little charm would be wonderful - not fond of modern style. We are arriving by Eurostar and also returning to London by Eurostar early morning on July 4. Opinions please.- thank you.

I like the Deux Continents on Rue Jacob near Rue Bonaparte. Good transportation and while their rates do not include breakfast, there is a Paul right around the corner.

What about the Hotel Bonaparte on the Rue Bonaparte - many here have recommended it.

Do you realize that is only a little over 100 euro at today's exchange rate? So it is possible if you stay in a 1-2* hotel and not in the central area. But there isn't a lot at that rate. The only hotels I know that cheap off the top of my head are really basic and won't be charming. Even most 2* hotels in the central area are more than that, like the Bonaparte mentioned above is more like 140 euro for the cheapeast double.

Here is one 2* hotel I know in St Germain that is around 100 euro. It is a greeat location. I haven't stayed there, just remember someone recommending it for a good cheap stay in that area and she stayed there and liked it http://www.saintpierre-hotel.com/

Here is a 2* hotel often recommended for something charming in the Latin Quarter and you can get an internet rate for the cheapest double around 125 euro, I think http://www.paris-hotel-stjacques.com/ of course that is prepaid, no refunds, must stay 3 nights. I would not want the cheapest double if you are staying with someone in a lower-end hotel, the room will be very small, you know. That hotel as four rate levels of doubles, for example.

You might look at the Hotel de France Invalides in the 7th arr, but it is more like 120 euro http://www.hoteldefrance.com/

I checked an the Hotel Bonaparte had some very bad recent reviews on Trip Advisor. The Deux Continents rate was 158 euros which is about $225 - a bit more than I wanted to spend if I can help it.

The location and cleanliness are the most important. Charm is just a lovely bonus.

What about the St. Pierre that Christina mentioned? Seems it might be what you're looking for.

I have personally not stayed here, but I recommended it to a friend who did and loved it. The location is great in the marais. Here is a link to their website http://www.hoteljeannedarc.com/

I sent an inquiry to the St. Pierre. I need to check a booking site also. The Hotel Jeanne d'Arc is sold out - too bad, it looked perfect.

Again, the Hotel St. Jacques was 184 euros for a twin and did not include all of the fees.

I guess this is the frustration of booking a trip only 7 weeks ahead.

We like the Le Familia when we waant to save on hotel rates. It includes breakfast and Wifi and it a short walk to the Seine.Their sister hotel next door , le Minerve has gotten good reviews from friends on mine.

Try two star hotels near Louvre and near metro stops:
- Prince Albert
- Montpensier

They have small rooms, but very clean and quiet. For us, they have a perfect location, near Louvre, Place Vendome, Place Concorde, two steps from Opera, and near metro stops.

We paid ~ 100 Euro for double room (breakfast not included)

Jeanne d'Arc might have worked.

Here is one a little off the beaten track compared to the usual, but it is your budget and near Port Royal RER stop in the Latin Qtr http://hotel-pierre-nicole.com/
It was used by some people I know although I haven't been in it but he said it was "lovely". It isn't that well known nor in guidebooks so might have rooms. It doesn't look that lovely to me (the outside is), but I'm sure it is clean and it is in a quiet area off any main street. It's not close to a metro stop, though, just RER and buses.

Here's another in your price range and a v ery good location in St Germain. It is kind of wellknown, but is worth a try http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h7...dredesarts.htm

This is a 3* hotel near where I stay in Montparnasse so its rates are cheaper http://www.delambre-paris-hotel.com/ It is a very good location for restaurants and transportation, though, and they do actually have even superior twins at 107 euro on your dates, I checked--special rates for 3+nights. It would be a more convenient location than the Pierre Nicole due to all the metro lines near there. If you can get that, I'd grab it as that is a 3* hotel with AC, which could come in handy in your time period.

I found another one with vacanices on your dates and twins for a bit over 100 euro, the Alize Grenelle
http://www.hotelbeaugralize.com/

They are also a 3* with AC. I've stayed in that neighborhood before and it is more a regular residential neighborhood, so restaurants and things are cheaper than in the more central area. I like it and always go to one of my favorite restaurants there every trip, it is also near a huge Monoprix and the Charles Michels metro line (and Zola which they don't show on their map, but it is closer to C Michels) so is fairly convenient. http://www.hotelbeaugralize.com/ Rue St Charles is a good market street.

I like the neighborhood but the Delambre is really a more convenient location.

They are sister hotels, I think the Alize is a little nicer and more convenient.

We've enjoyed staying in the 10th and 11th...basically between Bastille and Republic. I checked the place we stayed last year, Hotel St Louis Bastille, and it is booked solid. Right on Blvd Richard Lenoir, which is a terrific location. Years ago we stayed at Hotel de Mericourt (I think that was the name...means 4 leaf clover or something like that). We walked past it last year and it appears to have been done over in some rather bright, modern colors. Still, it was clean and well located. Between Parmentier and Oberkampf Metro stops. The area has gotten to be a "foodie" haven and there are some excellent restaurants around there.

We stayed at the Jean d'Arc once and loved it, but it is a budget favorite and booked up months in advance. Also liked Hotel Andrea Rivoli, but it too gets booked up quickly.

I keep forgetting you need a twin, not a double which is why I thought the St Jacques would be cheaper. That is a problem, as a lot of hotels don't have as many twin rooms and then don't have the same special rates on them as they would on a regular double. So don't be surprised if you can't find the same deals on twins as doubles. The rooms are often a little bigger, also, but most hotels just don't have as many.

I have requested a room from the Familia Hotel as it looks perfect for our needs, but it takes 2 days to get an answer. I am concerned that they also do not have any availability and don't want to wait for two more days to find out. I will continue to check out the many suggestions that have been listed here.

I have sent additional requests to Hotel Minerve (129 euros), and the Hotel Andrea Rivoli (104 euros) and Hotel Delambre (3 nights at 107 euros and two at 120 euros - go figure). Now to wait and see if I can get into any of them. Thank you.

Here is another to try - Hotel de Grand Balcons. It's the only place we've ever stayed on the left bank, but we thought it was wonderfully located. http://www.hotelgrandsbalcons.com/ho...cons-twin.html

I've stayed at Hotel Acte V in the Latin Quarter and really like it. The price should be close to what you are seeking if they are having a promotion. The hotel was clean, staff was friendly and there was a wine shop next door!

http://www.hotel-actev.com/en/

Also, near Hotel St. Jacques in the Latin Quarter, I stayed at Hotel des Carmes, I think I paid about 90 euros for a single a year ago. It is a couple blocks off St. Germain and has a market, restaurants and metro stop all within a block or two. Clean, comfortable and friendly staff.

I too love the location of the Balcons and stayed there twice. They didn't have AC, I stayed there once in the summer and really needed it that year. Not sure if that is a requirement for you.
