First two nights, Doolin or Ballyvaughen?
We have nailed all the bits of the trip down, but now have some second thoughts, should we spend the first two nights, in (busy) late July , in Doolin or, say, Ballyvaughan? We have reservations at Seaview in Doolin but are open to suggestions. We are three couples traveling together who want pubs and/or restaurants within walking distance in the evening-no driving. Some negatives (from other websites) about Doolin in late july,i.e. busy and only limited dining choices, make me wonder should be stay in a another nearby town?<BR><BR><BR>

I like Doolin very much, but choose not to stay there in the summer. Just too crowded for a town that wasn't built for crowds. I don't like 'standing room only' pubs! My choice would be Ballyvaughan. And, I also like Kinvara, just a few miles east of Ballyvaughan.

I like Lahinch, a small seaside village just down the coast from Doolin with some good music pubs to recommend it.<BR>My hands down favorite is Ennistymon, 2 kilometers from Lahinch also with great music pubs, Daly's and the Cooley House. one of the reasons I'm fond of Ennistymon is that it continues to be a working town populated, not by tourists but Irish folk going about their business..good restaurants, shops, etc central to all attractions in west Clare.<BR>I stay at the Station House on the edge of the town (within a two minute walk) spacious spotless great hostess.

mkd<BR>We loved Doolin but then we were there in March. We also enjoyed Ballyvaughan with all her thatched roofs! Kinvara is a charming town! Be sure and walk the Marina area. You will not go wrong whereever you stay, but IMHO, for what you want in Pub life and walking back to your B&B, even in the crowds of summer, I would vote for the Doolin B&B, it's a good one!

Late July - the Armada Hotel at Spanish Point (or a B&B in nearby Miltown Malbay). There's Step Dancing classes & competitions there around that time.<BR><BR>We haven't read anything about the 'Falls Hotel' (Lisdoonvarna?). It's the center of the 'Matchmaking' festival there around the first of October. <BR>BTW<BR>cavan97: Daly's in Ennintymon that you mention is John Daly's Matchmaker's Pub?? There's a picture of the old man there with a long grey beard.

We have stayed at the Seaview in Doolin on our two visits to Ireland in the past two years. We love it- the fine hospitality and wonderful breakfasts. The front bedrooms have a view of the little town. It is down the street from O'Connor's pub a lively place for music. When I think of Ireland the Seaview is a fond memory. We hope to return to Doolin and to Dara's breakfasts.
